Overview
An exciting vacancy has arisen for a Band 5 Occupational Therapist to work within Guild Lodge Secure Services. Guild Lodge consists of fifteen inpatient clinical areas within medium secure and low secure facilities. We have purpose-built facilities including a Therapeutic Resources Centre with gym and sports facilities and Tarnbrook Vocational Therapy Units. The post offers the opportunity to practice as a specialist Occupational Therapist in a secure setting within a multi-disciplinary team, focusing on occupation and providing opportunities to gain experience in group and individual interventions using the standardised model of MOHO. You will develop skills in clinical risk assessment and management.
Our service is well structured, with full support and supervision provided through clear line management. Continuing professional development is encouraged and supported via an active in-house education programme and evidence-based practice forum, in addition to external opportunities. We are a large, approachable, and supportive OT team committed to a learning environment.
Guild Lodge is a modern, purpose-built unit with pleasant surroundings and a staff group committed to effective multi-disciplinary collaboration and delivery of high-quality care to a challenging, mixed-gender, adult patient group.
Responsibilities
* Provide routine occupational therapy interventions to maintain, restore, or create a match between an individual’s abilities and the demands of their occupations in self-care, productivity, and leisure, and in relation to the environment (adapted from Creek 2003).
* Work alongside more senior therapists to consolidate and develop skills; while able to work autonomously as an independent professional, you will receive regular contact and supervision from senior therapists.
* Contribute to occupational therapy plans for people with complex needs as part of a team, but not as the sole responsible therapist for very complex occupational needs.
* During a period of preceptorship and following approved training, provide fieldwork placements for occupational therapy students; as confidence and experience grow, assume greater responsibility for supervision of support staff and delegation of OT tasks.
* Support the development of service delivery within a secure setting in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
Qualifications and experience
* Registered Occupational Therapist with Band 5 status, eligible to work in the UK.
* Experience or interest in secure services and working within a challenging, adult patient group.
* Ability to work autonomously with supervision; commitment to continuing professional development and evidence-based practice.
* Willingness to participate in preceptorship, professional development, and teaching of students as part of fieldwork placements.
* Good communication and collaboration skills within a multidisciplinary team.
