About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate, proactive, and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and inclusive school in Huddersfield. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about helping children with diverse additional needs thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
You will work closely with class teachers, SENCOs, and wider pastoral teams to support pupils with a range of needs, including SEMH, ASD, ADHD, learning difficulties, communication needs, and behavioural challenges. Every day will be different, and you will play a vital role in ensuring students feel safe, confident, and ready to learn.
Key Responsibilities
Provide 1:1 and smallsupport to students with special educational needs across Key Stages 14.
Implement individualised learning plans (ILPs) and strategies designed by the SENCO and teaching staff.
Assist with modifying classroom activities and learning materials to ensure curriculum accessibility for all learners.
Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils, particularly those with SEMH needs or anxiety around learning.
Support pupils in managing emotional and behavioural barriers by using calm, consistent, and restorative approaches.
Monitor and record pupil progress, feeding back to teaching staff and participating in review meetings when required.
Help create a safe, structured and nurturing learning environment in which every pupil feels valued and supported.
Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams, external specialists, and parents/carers.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN or behavioural needs (school, childcare, youth work or care settings).
A calm, patient, and empathetic approach, with the ability to remain composed in challenging situations.
Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport quickly with pupils.
A genuine passion for inclusive education and helping young people overcome barriers to learning.
A flexible mindset, willingness to learn, and a proactive attitude within the classroom.
Relevant training or qualifications (e.g., Team Teach, PRICE, Autism Awareness) are desirable but not essential.
