Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and versatile Handy Man to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in maintenance and repair, demonstrating proficiency in various technical skills. This role requires a proactive individual who can effectively manage tasks and ensure that all work is completed to the highest standards.
Responsibilities
The Maintenance/Handyperson's responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
· Assist in the assessment of the effectiveness of maintenance implementation and delivery
· Implement actions to meet and maintain maintenance standards
· Systematically solve day-to-day problematic issues which arise
· Ensure the service users' rights are protected
· Carry out minor repairs and maintenance of fixtures, fittings, and equipment (e.g., plumbing, carpentry, painting).
· Conduct routine inspections of the building, furniture, and appliances to identify and fix issues promptly.
· Replace light bulbs, fix locks, unblock drains, and address other minor technical issues.
· Conduct regular statutory checks, including Fire alarm tests and emergency lighting, Water temperature monitoring, Legionella prevention checks (e.g., flushing outlets), COSHH compliance in maintenance stores, etc
· Ensure the premises comply with health and safety standards, including fire safety and emergency lighting checks.
· Maintain accurate records of maintenance work, checks, and repairs.
. Support with fire drills, equipment testing (PAT, water temperatures), and safety audits.
· Ensure tools and equipment are used safely and stored securely.
· Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of outdoor areas (e.g., sweeping paths, basic gardening, removing rubbish).
· Clear snow, ice, or leaves from entrances during adverse weather conditions.
· Respond to maintenance requests from staff promptly.
· Be respectful and courteous to residents while carrying out duties in and around their living spaces.
· Set up furniture or equipment as needed for events or room changes.
· Carry out and document regular maintenance audits and environmental risk assessments (e.g., trip hazards, lighting, flooring, equipment).
· Identify and report hazards or maintenance issues that pose a safety risk.
· Take appropriate remedial action to reduce or eliminate risks.
· Escort and supervise external contractors when necessary.
· Report complex issues to management and assist with contractor follow-up or quotes.
· Be responsible for promoting and protecting the welfare of those individuals supported by the service
