Offer description

Our 5-year Electro-Mechanical Engineering Degree Apprenticeship offers the chance to earn a degree while developing real-world skills with experienced engineers on projects that make a difference. You'll support complex defence programmes and help us create a safer, more secure world.

About the programme: You'll start by shadowing engineers to develop a solid understanding of a Design Engineer's role and its application to naval and defence engineering. As your knowledge grows, you'll begin contributing directly to exciting projects like Launch Control Systems, Research & Development, and In-Service Support. Throughout the programme, you'll develop crucial skills in electrical design, requirements definition, use of test equipment and hand tools, and more. You'll gradually take on more responsibility, supported every step of the way by your team and mentor.

Your education/training: You will gain your degree by studying for a BEng (Hons) in Electro-Mechanical Engineering with Weston College. Throughout your apprenticeship, you'll spend time at the Weston College Global Technology Centre (GTC) in Filton and the University of the West of England's Frenchay Campus. Training is delivered on a day release basis and will cover a mix of engineering theory and practical skills that directly support your role at Babcock.

Future prospects: By the end of your apprenticeship, you'll be well-prepared for the role of Electrical Design Engineer, with excellent short- and long-term career prospects. You'll also have the opportunity to build on your progress toward professional registration, a recognised benchmark of engineering competence, which can support your journey into more advanced roles, such as Senior Engineer.

Requirements: To be eligible, you'll need 5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above, including Mathematics, English and a Science, Technology or Engineering-related subject, plus one of the following: 3 A Levels, including Maths at grade B or above, one Science, Technology, Engineering or additional Mathematics subject at grade C or above, and a third subject at grade C or above; or 90+ credits in a Level 3 Engineering BTEC (must include the Further Maths unit).

Security Clearance: Many of our apprenticeship programmes are subject to Security Clearance and Trade Control restrictions. For this programme, you must be able to achieve Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) and Security Check (SC) clearance. Further details are available at United Kingdom Security Vetting: clearance levels - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk).

Benefits: You'll receive personal development training and opportunities, minimum 28 days holiday allowance including bank holidays, competitive pension scheme, employee share scheme, and flexible benefits including cycle to work scheme and employee shopping savings portal. You'll also have the chance to get involved in our STEM outreach activities and volunteering opportunities.

Career development: It's hard to beat the variety of fantastic opportunities and business experiences you'll receive. You can expect real-world encounters and exposure to exciting projects that will really help you navigate where you want to take your career.
