Offer description

Our CrossReach Counselling and Recovery team is a values led service committed to delivering high quality therapeutic support to people facing emotional and psychological challenges. Through compassionate, ethical and professional practice, we aim to provide life changing and life enhancing services. We work collaboratively to create safe spaces for healing and growth, empowering clients to navigate their journeys with dignity and hope.

As a volunteer counsellor with CrossReach, you will provide a professional counselling service to clients. We will offer the training needed for you to practise within our guidelines and to support your development when you join the team.

Applicants should hold a diploma in counselling or be working towards one and have completed readiness to practise. For our perinatal services, a minimum of 50 clinical hours is also required. Those wishing to see clients online should have completed an ACTO approved online training course. We will discuss at interview the number of clients you will see, completion of associated case work, the hours you can volunteer and your availability to attend group supervision. If you join as a volunteer counsellor, we will ask for the name and contact details of your external supervisor.

Once you have passed your interview stage, we will apply for a PVG Membership for you, whether this is a new membership or an update.

We seek openness and respect towards CrossReach’s Christian ethos.

CrossReach Counselling is an organisational member of COSCA and adheres to COSCA’s Statement of Ethics and Code of Practice. All our practitioners are qualified and registered with a Professional Standards Authority recognised professional body, or are in the process of gaining their qualification. This ensures that your practitioner meets the standards required to support clients safely and effectively.

Applicants selected for interview will be invited to a Recruitment and Selection Evening on 14 January 2026. We are primarily seeking experienced counsellors or students in their second year of training.

If you are ready to make a meaningful difference and would like to volunteer with us, please apply today.

CrossReach has been at the forefront of high quality social care for over 150 years, providing loving care to people of all ages and supporting them to live life to the full whatever their circumstances. During that time, we have worked hard to understand the needs of the people who turn to us for help and with them have been at the forefront of pioneering services which have literally changed thousands of lives for the better.

Today we are one of the largest social care providers in Scotland, with experience across a broad range of services. We are still growing, learning, and improving, thanks to the incredible people we have the privilege to support, and all those who support us. We are part of the Church of Scotland and aim to provide social care services and specialist resources in Christ’s name to further the caring work of the Church to people in challenging circumstances.
