Salesforce Development Team Leader – University of Sheffield
Overview
To meet University strategic aims, a product and service‑led strategic framework has been developed to allow the IT team to iteratively co‑design, develop and deliver new and existing services for our customers. This role will be critical to the delivery of this new and innovative approach. IT Services at the University of Sheffield provide a full range of complex IT and technology‑enabled services that support education, research, workplace, corporate services and infrastructure enablers to all staff and students. The department is undergoing significant change as it establishes itself as a key enterprise IT partner, working across the University to deliver enterprise‑wide products and services in line with strategic aims.
Responsibilities
* Manage the Salesforce Development team and ensure the team works to consistent technical standards.
* Provide leadership and direction, giving clear guidance and support to maximise team performance.
* Collaborate with Product Managers, Delivery Leads and other teams to support a product roadmap.
* Translate business needs into value‑driven workloads for the team and communicate technical requirements to the organisation.
* Identify and facilitate professional development opportunities for team members to keep skills current.
* Oversee and maintain systems run by the team, ensuring they are properly managed, documented and kept up to date.
* Work with integrations, platforms and solutions architecture teams to create and maintain a software development and operations strategy that aligns with best practice.
* Develop and maintain systems within Salesforce, including Marketing and Education Cloud.
* Act as a leader and member of agile, Scrum teams, and work independently on a variety of projects.
* Serve as a technical point of contact in areas of expertise with other colleagues and departments.
* Keep up to date with new technologies and continuously improve existing skills using available resources.
* Carry out other duties as commensurate with the grade and remit of the post.

Essential Criteria
* Good honours degree in a related subject area or equivalent professional experience (minimum 5 years).
* Demonstrable leadership skills and experience in supporting and mentoring individuals and building successful, high‑performing teams.
* Significant experience with full agile life‑cycle product development and processes.
* Experience driving continual improvements to systems, processes and working practices to deliver increased performance, efficiency and quality.
* Expertise in designing, building and maintaining complex software systems using relevant technologies.
* Expertise in Salesforce development and administration.
* Ability to plan and prioritise system maintainability through documentation, knowledge sharing, standardisation, testing and automation.
* Experience working with APIs and databases to extract and manage data.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence people from a wide range of disciplines.
* Ability to analyse and solve problems with an appreciation of longer‑term implications.
* Ability to learn new technologies and techniques, set standards and support team members.
* Ability to assess and organise resources, plan and progress work activities in the short and medium term to meet deadlines.
* Experience working in a collaborative development environment using relevant tools (e.g. GIT, Jenkins) and methodologies such as TDD and agile.
Desirable Criteria
* Managing own time when working on several projects simultaneously, with the ability to prioritise and complete urgent fixes as they occur.
