We have secured a new framework with Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water that will last up to eight years, extending across the DCC region. The work will cover clean and wastewater treatment sites, below-ground assets, reservoirs and nature-based solutions. Since securing our first framework with DCC at the start of AMP6, our presence in Wales has grown significantly, directly employing over 270 colleagues across all roles, from frontline construction to design and management positions.
You will contribute to projects that significantly impact our environment and communities. Working primarily in the UK water market, MMB provides feasibility, design, construction and commissioning services needed to keep water flowing and wastewater treated. You’ll work on projects that make a real difference to our environment and communities by enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of water and wastewater treatment systems.
You will play a pivotal role in shaping the mechanical functions throughout the lifecycle of various projects. From concept design to commissioning, you will ensure that all mechanical aspects are meticulously considered and integrated.
The role of a Mechanical Engineer includes:
* Preparing and reviewing designs for schemes and ensuring all designs are fit for purpose and meet current legislation and standards. This will be for water and wastewater infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects through the outline and detailed design, construction, commissioning and handover, including, but not limited to, P&IDs, valve schedules, pump calculations, defining safe access and lifting arrangements, above ground pipework layouts, etc.
* Producing and reviewing technical specifications and schedules for procurement activities, reviewing supplier tender bids and technical submissions.
* Understanding, applying and contributing to design standards with a good knowledge of client and industry standards.
* Be able to appropriately challenge client specifications and present and defend solutions to complex problems.
* Identifying opportunities to improve delivery processes including development and implementation of standard designs, sustainable solutions and digital tools.
* Acting as technical checker on project documents and undertaking technical reviews for projects across teams.
* Managing the interfaces and integration of the design with that of other disciplines and production of documentation.
* Able to actively seek input from other engineers, specialists, client and project team members to improve understanding and deliver fit for purpose solutions.
* Working closely and collaboratively with the commercial, operational and construction teams to develop efficient, practical and safe solutions throughout design stages, construction and beyond.
* Supervising and mentoring our Graduates and Engineers assisting them to develop their knowledge and skills.
* Positively engage with the client, managing relationships and adopting a one-team approach to supporting them in achieving their aims.
* Undertaking site reviews to ensure buildability of solutions and integration within the existing systems.
Qualifications
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field
* Working towards Chartered or Incorporated member of a professional institution (e.g., ICE, IMechE) or equivalent experience.
* Experience with water, or wastewater, non-infrastructure or infrastructure projects.
* Experience of delivering high quality outputs in accordance with design, quality and safety standards.
* A valid driving licence and willingness to travel to sites.

This is a Mott MacDonald Bentley role, employed by Mott MacDonald. The role may involve working across the joint venture with Mott MacDonald and JN Bentley. The JV was established in 1999 between civil engineering contractor JN Bentley and global management consultancy, Mott MacDonald, offering fully integrated design and build services to its clients.
