We are seeking a Refuse Driver to join Newry, Mourne and Down District Council's Environmental Cleansing team. This role is key to ensuring the safe, efficient, and professional collection of refuse and recyclables across the district, while maintaining a high standard of public service and operational excellence.
As a member of the Refuse Collection team, the successful candidate will be required to:
Provide and develop a high-quality Refuse Collection Service across the Council area, in all weather conditions.
Operate in a dynamic and changing service area, contributing to effective waste collection and recycling services across multiple locations.
Provide professional day-to-day leadership of the refuse collection crew while delivering a safe and customer-focused service.
Drive and operate a refuse collection or skip collection vehicle for the removal and disposal of refuse and recyclable materials.
Carry out vehicle checks, routine maintenance (e.g. oil, water), and ensure safety mechanisms and power operations are functioning correctly.
Clean and operate any power mechanism fitted to the vehicle, including associated paperwork and transporting equipment, goods, and personnel.
Engage with the public appropriately and ensure the refuse crew adhere to Council policies and complete their duties according to schedules.
Undertake ancillary duties including the removal of household, industrial, and commercial refuse from various premises.
Clean up spillages and loose litter or debris arising from collection operations and dispose of waste appropriately.
Notify residents of changes to collection arrangements and promote clear communication within the community.
Report public safety hazards or environmental issues daily and contribute to maintaining cleanliness and safety.
Provide Bulky Collection Services, using appropriate manual handling techniques for safe disposal.
LGV Category C driving licence essential.
Experience driving LGV Category C vehicles, preferably within a local authority or waste management environment.
Familiarity with refuse collection procedures, recycling services, and vehicle safety practices.
Working knowledge of vehicle maintenance, waste collection policies, and safe manual handling procedures.
Understanding of environmental cleanliness and Council waste policies.
07 per hour.
