Enva is a specialist recycling and reuse company focusing on refrigerators and Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE). We pride ourselves on innovative recycling solutions and delivering environmental sustainability through efficient, compliant, and high‑performance waste management. We are looking for an Incinerator Engineer/operator to join our dynamic team in Grantham. In this role, you will be responsible for the full operation and preparing the incinerator for maintenance. (GERI) Gas, Energy, Refrigerant, Incinerator You will help carry out both reactive and planned preventive maintenance, ensuring maximum uptime, environmental compliance, and safe operation of critical plant and equipment. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who thrives in a hands‑on, production‑driven environment and enjoys technical problem-solving in a fast‑moving industrial setting. Key Responsibilities General Maintenance Duties Stable combustion and process conditions are established and maintained. The plant is fully prepared for safe, autonomous overnight running. Engineers can safely access the plant during planned and reactive maintenance. All incoming gases are received, stored, tracked, and managed correctly. Sufficient feedstock, consumables, and critical spares are always available. Environmental permit conditions. Work as part of a cohesive team, adopting a flexible, first-time-right approach. GERI (Fridge Degassing & Foam Treatment Plant) – Specialist Responsibilities Incinerator combustion chambers Afterburner system Burners and fuel systems Combustion air and draft systems Gas feed systems Storage tanks Transfer pumps and compressors Emission monitoring systems Heat exchangers Associated PLC / HMI controls Gas storage compounds and drum handling areas The Operator is accountable for both operational performance and safety integrity. Full Plant Operational Control Execute controlled start-up and shutdown procedures. Maintain combustion temperatures within permit limits. Control feed rates of gases to ensure optimal destruction efficiency. Monitor oxygen levels, combustion ratios, and burner performance. Identify process deviations before alarm thresholds are reached. Maintain stable pressure and flow conditions across systems. Prevent flame instability or thermal shock to refractory lining. Monitor tank levels and transfer systems to prevent overfill or starvation. The Operator is expected to anticipate instability, not simply react to alarms. Night Shift Stability Assurance A critical function of this role is preparing the plant for unmanned night operation, where only engineering staff may be present for emergency oversight. The Operator must: Ensure steady and optimized feed rates. Verify stable combustion trends (temperature, pressure, oxygen). Eliminate unresolved alarms. Confirm gas storage levels are balanced for overnight burn plan. Ensure consumables (fuel, reagents) are sufficient. Confirm no developing mechanical risks are present. Provide clear written and verbal handover notes. The role directly impacts risk exposure during unmanned hours Planned Maintenance Before engineers enter the plant, the Operator must: Execute controlled shutdown. Isolate gas feeds and fuel lines. Confirm safe temperature conditions. Gas test where required. Provide formal handover confirmation Unplanned Downtime In breakdown scenarios, the Operator must: Stabilize the plant. Prevent escalation of unsafe conditions. Safely isolate affected systems. Maintain safe conditions until engineering intervention. Support root cause identification. Environmental & Regulatory Compliance The Operator must ensure: Emission limits are not exceeded. Proper combustion temperature and residence time are maintained. Continuous emission monitoring systems are functional. Records are accurate and audit ready. Any deviation is reported immediately. Failure in this area exposes the company to regulatory penalties. Safety Leadership The Operator must: Enforce safe working standards. Stop unsafe acts. Refuse plant operation under unsafe conditions. Ensure safe storage of hazardous gases. Maintain high housekeeping standards. The Operator is a frontline safety leader. Key Performance Indicators Zero uncontrolled shutdowns. Stable overnight operation. Accurate gas reconciliation. Zero downtime due to missing consumables or critical spares. High plant availability. The success of the GERI plant depends directly on the competence and diligence of this position This is not an exhaustive list. You may also be required to carry out any other duties as required by the business that you are qualified/trained in that meet the requirements of this role. Skills, Knowledge and Expertise High mechanical and process awareness. Mechanical bias with Level 3 qualification or equivalent. Minimum 1 year of mechanical experience, ideally involving hydraulics, pneumatics, or process plant machinery. Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail. Ability to work in a fast-paced, production-driven environment; recycling/WEEE experience desirable. Flexible, team-oriented attitude with the ability to support additional tasks or shifts when required. Understanding of continuous improvement and new working methods. Willingness to cover alternative shifts when needed. Job Requirements Full-time role based in Grantham. Competitive Salary Monday to Friday 45 hours per week Regular exposure to noise, dust, and heavy machinery. Personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided and must be worn. Why Work For Enva?
