Carloway Estate Trust is recruiting a Peatland ACTION Officer to support the delivery of peatland restoration projects across Lewis and Harris.
This is a full time, fixed term role running until 31st March 2027, with potential for extension subject to funding.
The Role
* You will lead the development and delivery of peatland restoration projects across the area.
* You will work with colleagues, NatureScot’s Peatland ACTION team, contractors, and land managers to identify and deliver projects that improve peatland habitats and support carbon storage.
* You will engage with land managers, including Common Grazings, to encourage participation in restoration programmes.
* You will prepare funding applications for peatland restoration works and manage projects through to delivery where funding is secured.
* You will oversee contractors and ensure projects are delivered effectively on a site by site basis.
Working Pattern
* Full time role based in Carloway, Isle of Lewis.
* Fixed term contract until 31st March 2027.
* Flexible working approach required depending on project needs.
What We Are Looking For
* A strong interest in peatland restoration and environmental conservation.
* Experience in land management, ecology, or environmental field work would be beneficial.
* A good understanding of peatland ecology and management.
* Strong communication skills and the ability to work with a range of stakeholders.
* An interest in community land and crofting environments.
* Ability to work independently and take initiative.
