Position: Research Associate (Health Services Research/Epidemiology) at UNSW.
Location: Randwick Clinical Campus, Sydney NSW
Employment Type: Full-time (35 hours per week). Duration: 1-year fixed-term contract. Remuneration: Level C $91k–$121k base + 17% Superannuation + Annual Leave Loading.
Work rights: Visa sponsorship is not available. Candidates must have full rights to work in Australia.
About the role
The Population Child Health research group at UNSW is an integrated, multidisciplinary, translational research team working across the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network with partners in Local Health Districts, State and Commonwealth governments to inform service delivery and policy through innovation, collaboration, research, policy development and advocacy.
The Research Associate will work within the Population Child Health research group, School of Clinical Medicine, UNSW, and will support research, service and develop novel research by increasing quality publication output and grant income with the aim of improving the health, wellbeing and development of children and young people locally, nationally and internationally.
You will provide statistical and epidemiological support for intervention-based studies and grant applications. The role conducts research activities, including surveys, literature reviews, data collection and recording results using appropriate methods under the guidance of a research leader. The role supports dissemination of research outcomes through suitable channels and involves presenting at conferences and/or workshops.
The role reports directly to the Head of the Population Child Health research group and has no direct reports.
Responsibilities
* Provide statistical and epidemiological support for intervention-based studies and grant applications.
* Conduct research activities, including surveys, literature reviews, data collection and recording results using appropriate methods under guidance of a research leader.
* Support dissemination of research outcomes through suitable channels, including presentations at conferences and/or workshops.
* Contribute to high-quality publications and grant income to improve health outcomes for children and young people locally and internationally.
Qualifications
* A PhD in Epidemiology/Statistics or related discipline, and/or relevant experience, training or accreditation.
* Competency in statistical software (R, SAS and/or Stata) and experience working with large data sets.
* Experience in design and evaluation of trials is beneficial.
* Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills; ability to collaborate across disciplines and build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
* Ability to undertake high-quality academic research (study design, grant writing, ethics applications) with limited supervision, via effective prioritisation and attention to detail.
* Commitment to staying current with discipline knowledge and developments.
* Proven track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity.
* Understanding of UNSW's aims, objectives and values and relevant policies and guidelines.
* Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities; willingness to complete relevant health and safety training.
