The role will consist of processing parcels for various dispatches e.g., mass vaccinations, patient-to-home, sales (WDA(h) and to satellite units and wards as required.
There will be a requirement to undertake/complete a Buttercups Level 2 qualification and an internal training framework to be able to progress to a Band 3 role.
All the relevant training will be provided under the supervision of the Pharmacy Learning and Development team. After successful completion of all in-house training and Buttercups training course, you will be assessed by the Pharmacy Logistic Services Manager/Lead before the final sign off and if successful, you will automatically progress to Band 3
Main duties of the job
Assist in the day-to-day duties of Pharmacy Logistics Delivery Service in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures and the legal framework for the supply of medicines to ensure a safe, effective and timely service.
Involving the documentation and processing of various dispatches, mapping of dispatch routes and driver itineraries, preparing cold chain transport for movement of vaccines and thermolabile medication, supporting the development of a robust pharmacy logistics service
To communicate routinely and effectively with a range of professionals, both internally and externally, as well as individuals such as patients and the general public.
Ensure compliance with Good Distribution Practice (UK GDP) undertaken within NBT Pharmacy.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
The Logistics Pharmacy Assistant is responsible for ensuring that tasks in the daily schedules are completed in a timely manner. They will ensure data is collected accurately, safely, and legally, and will cleanse data to be prepared for monthly updates on performance of the service. They will provide hands-on training to Pharmacy assistants, pre-registration technicians and Pharmacists, and rotational staff as identified by the Logistics Supervisor. The Logistics assistants will complete tasks in the daily schedules ensuring a thorough handover between shift changes and escalate any problems to the Pharmacy Logistics Supervisors in the first instance.
The Pharmacy Assistant is required to;
* Retrieve prescriptions from the Dispensary which are to be actioned for dispatch.
* Receive and send out dispatches from Distribution to Satellite units.
* Processing fridge lines for dispatch
* Ensure prompt, safe, and secure transportation of medication to areas of North Bristol NHS Trust (NBT), non-NBT entities following the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that are in place.
* Pack medication appropriately, ensuring all departmental protocols and current legislation are followed regarding cold chain products, controlled drugs, and cytotoxic substances.
* Communicate efficiently with a wide range of other members of North Bristol NHS Trust, including other Pharmacy staff and ward staff, as well as staff at non-NBT units.
* Deal with routine service enquiries and process urgent delivery requests in a timely manner via the third-party ad-hoc delivery service, if required.
* Any other duties, which may be required by the Director of Pharmacy, Logistics coordinator or Supervisor for the benefit of the service.
* To be conversant with all relevant and current legislation, including any medicine supplied under the WDA(h) as prerequisite to working in the pharmacy logistics
* Ensure that all activities undertaken within NBT Pharmacy Services are compliant with Good Distribution Practice (UK GDP) and all relevant department procedures are understood and followed appropriately.
* Complete the required training sessions in relation to both GDP and WDA (h) annually as identified by the Pharmacy Training Team.
* Ensure that they keep up to date with reading updated Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), maintain records of Mandatory and role specific training, and that they maintain a high level of professional knowledge and competence in relation to their role with Pharmacy Logistics.
* Complete Buttercups Level 2 Training and other competencies necessary for progression to the Band 3 role.
* To maintain spreadsheets, databases, and other forms of electronic and manual records for purposes, such as recording information about activity, deliveries, and performance for use in KPI collection and Quality Management Systems (QMS) meetings.

Essential criteria
* NVQ level 2/Buttercups Level 2 (Pharmacy) or equivalent – or willing to work towards
* GCSE English and Mathematics – grade C/4 or above
Work Experience

* Previous employment in hospital or community pharmacy
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Essential criteria
* Knowledge of General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR)
* Good interpersonal skills and able to communicate effectively
* Excellent I.T. Skills, including accurate data entry
Desirable criteria
* Knowledge of the range and type of prescriptions and pharmaceutical products in current use.
* Knowledge of Wholesale Distribution activities under a WDA(h) and the requirements of Good Distribution Practice (UK GDP)

* Good problem-solving skills, but also aware of when own limits
* Be self-motivated, logical, methodical and have a good attention to detail
* Willing to be trained and instructed
* Able to work during the normal working week between 07:00 and 20:00, as well as weekends and bank holidays on a rota basis. Shift pattern will be allocated once appointed, as the Department is moving towards a full 7-day service.
