The Role We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Planner, ideally based in York or the surrounding area, to join our growing in-house team. This is a strategically important position, supporting site identification, planning promotion, and project delivery across a dynamic pipeline of development opportunities. You will play a key role in shaping the planning strategy for new and existing sites, helping to secure planning consents for residential-led and mixed-use developments. This is a hands-on, varied role that offers genuine scope to influence outcomes and contribute to the company's continued growth. Key Responsibilities Lead the planning strategy for allocated development sites from pre-acquisition stage through to permission. Manage planning applications, appeals, and strategic site promotion through Local Plans and other planning policy frameworks. Identify planning risks and opportunities, providing commercially focused advice to inform acquisition and investment decisions. Build and maintain strong relationships with local planning authorities, stakeholders, and community groups. Contribute planning expertise to land bids, promotional material, and investment proposals. Requirements Strong knowledge of the UK planning system, particularly in relation to residential development and strategic land promotion. Proven track record of managing planning applications and coordinating external consultants. Commercial awareness, with an understanding of viability, site constraints, and development delivery. Excellent communication skills, including report writing, presenting, and engaging with external stakeholders. Based in or near York, or open to relocating to the Yorkshire/Northeast region. Desirable Experience working for a housebuilder, property developer, or strategic land promoter. Familiarity with planning policy and decision-making across Yorkshire and the wider Northeast.
