Overview
New Beginnings Peer Support is an after-crisis domestic abuse service based in North Yorkshire, dedicated to supporting women and their children who have previously faced domestic abuse. We offer a person-centered, tailored approach to ensure comprehensive support, including 1:1 sessions, group support, family activities and career support. Our organisation follows the principles of trauma-informed practice, aiming to promote post-traumatic growth and positive health and wellbeing. Additionally, we work with youth projects, community organisations, and educational facilities to raise awareness and foster healthy relationship habits in younger generations.
Role Description
Hours per week: 22.5hrs (3 x 7.5hr days or over 4 days)
Where: Office based/community based/remote (across Harrogate & Craven Districts)
Salary: £24,375-£25,603.50 (pro rata based on 37.5hrs per week)
Contract: Fixed-term (ending 31st March 2026) additional funding being sought to extend.
Reporting to: CEO & Acting Manager Lindsay Oliver
Requires: Lived experience of Domestic Abuse, a driving licence & access to own vehicle
Responsibilities
The peer mentor role is integral to the post-traumatic growth of our clients and to the delivery of greater community awareness of the long-term implications of domestic abuse. The successful candidate will achieve the required outcomes via a trauma-informed, person-centered approach. In addition, the individual fulfilling this role will be tasked with increasing awareness of the New Beginnings Peer Support service amongst local organisations and the wider community, with particular attention paid to ensuring we reach the surrounding rural areas.
* be responsible for portion of client case load offering ongoing support of individual clients (women and children) through 1:1 support, group support and signposting, including internal referrals to R2T programme (face-face, message, phone call and video call).
* induct new members to New Beginnings Peer Support and establish their tailored support package.
* facilitate a weekly group support session.
* facilitate constructive conversation on client WhatsApp groups.
* create suitable content and session plans to enable the delivery of relevant support.
* assist with negotiating conflicts or disagreements that may arise within the client group.
* support clients to be actively engaged in co-production to empower them to make positive change for themselves and fellow survivors.
* introduce New Beginnings Peer Support to the relevant local organisations/branches and form collaborative relationships for the betterment of the community.
* monitor and evaluate activities and write reports for line manager.
* maintain databases and undertake any other administrative duties.
* work with volunteer co-ordinator and line manager to identify candidates for the client to peer volunteer pathway.
* attend committees and meetings and events, both internal and external (occasionally on evenings/weekends).
Training & Support
* attend regular staff supervision with your line manager.
* attend monthly clinical supervision.
* follow the guidelines, policies and procedures of New Beginnings Peer Support.
* be available and open to CPD opportunities and keep up to date with government initiatives & changes to domestic abuse related laws.
* attend and complete all internal training.

Additional information
* 126hrs annual leave plus Bank Holidays and days between Christmas & New Year every 12mths (pro rata to contract length).

* 3 month probationary period.
