Job Description: Financial Controller – Freight Forwarding & CustomsJob Overview We are seeking a highly capable, hands-on Financial Controller to lead and oversee the financial operations of a growing freight forwarding and customs brokerage business. This is a key role within the organisation, combining strong financial control with commercial awareness and operational understanding. The successful candidate will act as a true financial all-rounder, responsible for reporting, cash flow management, and financial strategy, while supporting the business in maintaining efficiency, compliance, and profitability. You will work closely with leadership and operations teams in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, contributing directly to decision-making and business growth. Responsibilities Prepare and analyse monthly management accounts, financial statements, and forecasts to support strategic decisions Oversee day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable, receivable, payroll, and cash flow management Manage budgets, monitor performance, and identify opportunities for cost optimisation and margin improvement Ensure full compliance with statutory requirements, particularly within freight forwarding and customs brokerage activities Maintain accurate financial records across systems (experience with CargoWise is a strong advantage ) Oversee and optimise invoice discounting facilities and working capital management Support and manage customs accounting processes, including duty, VAT, and deferment accounts (advantageous) Coordinate external audits and liaise with auditors and advisors Implement and strengthen internal controls and financial processes Analyse financial data to identify risks, trends, and commercial opportunities Support and develop the finance team, fostering a high-performance and collaborative culture Requirements Proven experience as a Financial Controller or senior finance professional, ideally within logistics, freight forwarding, or customs brokerage Strong financial and commercial acumen, with the ability to operate as a hands-on financial all-rounder Experience with invoice discounting / working capital facilities Familiarity with customs accounting and related financial flows is an advantage Experience with CargoWise is highly desirable Proficiency in accounting systems such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, or similar Excellent analytical skills with strong attention to detail Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment Strong leadership and communication skills Working Environment Office-based role with flexibility for certain work-from-home days A warm, supportive, and friendly team environment Opportunity to play a key role in a growing, ambitious business Why Join Us This is an excellent opportunity for a driven finance professional to take ownership of the finance function within a growing logistics business, influence strategic decisions, and grow alongside the company.
