This is an exciting opportunity for a well-qualified graduate to gain vital teaching skills and experience at a leading independent school as a Sports Assistant (Football).
Our School's Graduate Sports Assistants are an integral part of our PE and sports team. They work across the full range of our sports offering to ensure that every pupil fulfils their sporting potential. From supporting participation in PE lessons through to coaching high ability teams and individuals, you will provide key support that ensures the smooth running of the PE department and our football programme.
For candidates interested in a future teaching career, there will also be a range of opportunities to develop their skills and experience in this area during their time at the school.
We are looking for a personable and enthusiastic individual to join us from August 2025. You will be a football specialist, with solid practical playing and coaching experience in this sport. Ideally, you will also be capable of coaching cricket, rugby or hockey. Strong communication skills are essential, along with a degree-level sports qualification (or experience that demonstrates equivalent professional abilities).
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Coaching teams
1. Planning and delivering coaching sessions.
2. Managing allocated sports teams.
3. Coaching and officiating at mid-week and weekend sports fixtures.
4. Writing reports about the performances and achievements of assigned sports teams on a weekly and annual basis.
Supporting PE lessons
5. Assisting teachers with the delivery of PE lessons.
6. Supervising lower school PE lessons when required.
7. Assisting the Director of Sport / Heads of Sport with administrative and logistical tasks.
School-wide activities and events
8. Assisting teaching staff at open days and annual events.
9. Assisting with the officiating and provision of House Sports.
10. Performing supervision school duties when required.
11. Attending and supporting sports awards evenings.
12. Attending school trips and sports tours when required.
Qualifications/ Knowledge
13. Degree-level sports qualification (or experience that demonstrates equivalent professional abilities)
14. Solid practical knowledge of playing and coaching of football
Experience:
15. Evidence of challenging and supporting members of sports teams to improve performance.
16. Record of developing and sustaining positive working relationships
17. Experience of efficient and effective organisation and management systems
Skills:
18. Confident and warm personal presence and presentation
19. Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, verbally and in writing
20. Ability to effectively plan, resource, and organise projects and tasks
