Job Title: Technical Manager Salary: £70k (depending on overhaul/repair experience) Location: Manchester, with UK and Overseas travel as required. Reporting directly to the Operation Director, you will give regular information on Engineering, Repair and Service performance. You also be required to produce written reports on a frequent basis. You will work very closely with the Operations Team, in order to achieve the aims set out below and to manage the staff reporting to you. You will also have frequent interaction with Projects, HSQE, and HR departments, relating to broader business activities Quality control of day-to-day engineering tasks is an important aspect of the job. Department objectives: To maximise electrical production and reduce operational costs by taking responsibility (where this is economically beneficial) for the operation, repair, maintenance and scheduling of all plant and equipment under our control. Key to this will be our ability to comprehensively and cost effectively, operate and maintain our own and client’s generating assets and processing plant. To ensure the operation and maintenance of all operational generation assets, plant, solar installations and gas systems to achieve maximum safe electrical output. The aim of the Company is to develop a sector leading, successful, sustainable, and profitable business based on O&M, gas utilisation, solar and other technology. The company is looking for safe, clean, and well-run sites, which surpass client expectations, budgetary and performance targets and hold comprehensive records of interventions, maintenance and performance. Main responsibilities: Manage the Technical team to deliver technical support requirements nationwide (across all regions) for all generation assets, considering operational availability and commercial aspects. Direct maintenance and technical intervention and repair. Take responsibility for asset repair and scheduled overhaul outage to ensure efficient delivery and timely return to operation. Lend expertise to ensure optimised maintenance scheduling and maximised production with low operating costs. Schedule technical service provision to ensure efficient, effective and cost-conscious resource planning. Lead, advise and set in place appropriate response to outage root causation to reduce the likelihood of repeat business interruption (so far as reasonably practicable). Assess, develop and recommend technical solutions for a broad range of equipment, operational and process challenges. Forecast equipment (inhouse/customer) refurbishment in accordance with contractual obligations and for budgetary purposes. Product development, selection proposal, and cost reduction. Liaise with potential clients providing the technical resource to facilitate our service solutions. Advise on technical aspects to assist with the negotiation of supply chains where appropriate. Ensure continual scheduling review, execution and recording of equipment maintenance as part of an asset management, quality and ‘customer experience’ system. Proactively identify potential engineering challenges and submit proposals for upgrade/downgrade products, where appropriate. Ensure testing and work procedures are properly understood, performed and evaluated as required. Audit engaged engineering/product suppliers to improve quality of service. Evaluate and improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness Provide guidance to operations management on the choice and implementation of improvement initiatives. Provide support and guidance to the Operation and Engineering staff on fault finding, and possible remediation actions in and out of normal working hours Develop and source tools and equipment to improve maintenance regimes Development and man management of the Technical Team A commitment to continuous enhancement of your skills and knowledge Reduce dependency on contractors, where it is economically prudent. Avoid unnecessary expenditure by using skills and tools available within the company Managing your time and travel effectively Prioritisation and coordination of your own workload and that of the of the staff who report directly to you Compliance with all relevant legislation including HSQE. Key tasks: Development, review and compliance of the company’s maintenance procedures, manuals, and record keeping Manage the timely scheduling and delivery of planned and unplanned maintenance for all generation assets in conjunction with Operations Monitor and audit equipment performance through gathering relevant data/maintenance records and producing statistical reports. Audit maintenance procedures, providing advice and direction for continual improvement. Oversee condition monitoring of plant and equipment Recommend technically and commercially viable improvements/change required to prevent equipment failure. Investigate and formally report on equipment failure and provide expert considered conclusion. Manage the timely scoping of technical solutions and engineering tasks (‘emergents’) Coordinate technical works to minimise availability interuption in conjunction with Operations Managers Purchase order administration ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures Passing on your knowledge and skills to all levels of staff Attendance at all relevant meetings Control and reporting of maintenance costs Analyse the supply market, products and submit proposals to improve engineering supply, equipment specification and/or financial performance. Incorporate new technology and training when required. Implementation of HSQE systems Commitment to training to enhance knowledge and skills within the team Participation in the appraisal of the staff reporting directly to you Any reasonable task required by the management in the exercising of its goals. Knowledge/ Experience Extensive knowledge and experience of reciprocating mechanical and electrical generation plant operation and maintenance Familiar with various generating platforms (including but not limited to) MWM, MTU, Caterpillar, Cummins and similar. Work Scheduling, Operation and Maintenance of plant and equipment in a commercial environment Recognised formal level qualification in either a mechanical or electrical skill (mechanical bias preferred) Proven supervision and management of a national multiskilled technical team Prioritisation and efficient delivery in a commercial environment Expertise in technical specification and supply contracts Experience of operating and maintaining a wide range of equipment on low grade problematic fuel and in arduous application/environments (Frequent Cycle, Landfill, Stranded Gas, Flare Gas, Remote, Altitude). Experience with Solar installations Hold a full UK licence and Passport. Personal qualities: Self-Motivated. Problem Solving and freedom to act: You will be required to schedule and prioritise your own work to achieve agreed targets. Routine decisions should be made alone but any decision, which will have a major impact on procedure, and practice, legal implications or cost implications should be authorised by the Operations Director.
