As a Protection Settings Engineer at Siemens Energy in Newcastle upon Tyne, England, GB, your primary responsibility will be to assess the performance capability of each individual item of plant and examine all possible modes of system normal operation. You will also consider all normal transient phases of the system and examine all possible failure modes of the system and plant. Your expertise will be crucial in proposing and specifying the correct and effective protection settings.
In addition to your knowledge and understanding of protection device and scheme principles of operation, you will also have a thorough understanding of Power Systems in both the normal operational state and in the abnormal faulty state. You will be able to model and analyze the power system effectively.
How You’ll Make an Impact
In this role, you will:
1. Produce protection and control settings for up to 400kV substations and LVAC systems.
2. Handle protection co-ordination studies and settings reports for up to 400kV substations and LVAC systems.
3. Assist in the preparation of templates to ensure consistent results are acquired.
4. Liaise with Project/Protection Engineers to ensure full scope of work is covered.
5. Attend technical meetings with clients to ensure technical satisfaction.
6. Review commissioning switching programs on a circuit-by-circuit basis to extract commissioning O/C requirements.
7. Provide input into Compliance Matrices, Design Intent Documents, and Functional Design Specifications as required.
8. Adhere to the latest specifications and processes.
9. Abide by all business compliance requirements in line with Company policies, such as Business Conduct Guidelines & Confidential Information.
10. Be responsible for the interpretation and analysis of fault records and recommend settings policy changes if required.
11. Demonstrate dedication to Siemens Think Customer initiative, including excellent call handling and voice mail skills.
12. Contribute to the business improvement program within the Engineering Department.
13. Deliver departmental work packages on time and within budget.
What You Bring
To excel in this role, you should have:
14. Design experience within the Electricity Transmission and Distribution industry.
15. Conversance with the latest Transmission and Distribution standards & technologies.
16. Knowledge of protection scheme application.
17. Knowledge of LVAC and LVDC systems.
18. Siprotec 4/5 Protection Relay Configuration experience.
19. Experience of sizing and Digsilent Power factory software.
20. Experience of Omicron Protection Relay test equipment.
21. National Grid TP141 Auth Settings Eng Status.
