The Senior Construction Manager is responsible for the planning, execution, and delivery of all structural works across large-scale infrastructure or building projects. This role ensures that all substructure (e.g., foundations, basements, piling) and superstructure (e.g., frames, slabs, cores) activities are executed in accordance with the design specifications, programme schedule, health and safety standards, and UK building regulations. The position requires close coordination with internal departments, external stakeholders, and regulatory bodies to maintain progress, quality, and compliance throughout the structural phases of the project.
We are looking for a qualified experienced Senior Construction Manager who has worked for main contractors.
Core Responsibilities
Oversee all construction activities for substructure and superstructure works, including excavation, piling, foundations, basements, frames, slabs, and cores.
Ensure works are delivered in compliance with technical drawings, UK building codes, and relevant standards.
Manage subcontractors, suppliers, and internal site teams to ensure coordinated structural delivery.
Liaise with technical, design, and planning teams to address constructability issues and sequence work effectively.
Implement and monitor health and safety protocols, including method statements and risk assessments for heavy construction.
Ensure quality control through site inspections, testing, and issuance of non-conformance reports when required.
Track progress against project milestones and escalate delays or critical issues to senior leadership.
Participate in construction coordination meetings and contribute to lookahead planning, reporting, and programme updates.
Coordinate temporary works, MEP penetrations, concrete pours, formwork systems, and logistics.
Manage crane operations and material deliveries in coordination with logistics and procurement teams.
Support cost and resource optimisation through efficient sequencing and planning.
The Profile
Minimum Education
Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management (or equivalent technical discipline).
Work Experience
Minimum 912 years of relevant construction experience, preferably on major UK projects.
Demonstrable leadership in managing basement, podium, frame, and core packages.
Driving License: Essential
Professional Qualifications
SMSTS certification.
CSCS (Black or Gold Card).
Temporary Works Coordinator certification.
Technical & Behavioural Competencies
Strong leadership, coordination, and decision-making skills under pressure.
In-depth knowledge of UK construction legislation, CDM regulations, and British Standards.
Expert understanding of concrete, steel, and composite structural systems.
Experience in groundworks, deep foundations, and temporary works planning.
Ability to read and interpret structural drawings and technical documents.
Proficient in construction management tools (Navisworks, BIM 360, Procore), planning software (Primavera P6, MS Project), and Microsoft Office.
Familiarity with site-specific systems for logistics, quality, and HSE monitoring.
Excellent communication and organisational skills with a safety-first mindset.
