About the role:

We currently have an opportunity for an instrumentation, control & automation (ICA) technician to work in our Latton or Newbury sites, depending on your location.

As the successful candidate, you will work in multi-disciplinary teams alongside operational teams such as systems, mechanical, and electrical technicians. Your responsibilities include installing, modifying, and commissioning plant equipment to standards, diagnosing faults, and repairing systems. You will also identify and report work for improvements and deliver cost-effective asset enhancements.

This role offers a chance to impact Thames Water's environmental efforts positively by reducing pollution from our sites.

What you’ll be doing as the ICA Technician

* Perform instrumentation, control, and automation maintenance on water production assets, including planned, preventative, and reactive maintenance. Liaise with contractors and suppliers as needed.
* Investigate plant failures and implement repairs promptly to prevent supply disruptions. Conduct risk assessments and create method statements for maintenance activities.
* Provide technical advice, support training for trainees, and contribute to project development and capital projects.

Base Location: Latton, Cirencester or Speen - Newbury, depending on your location.

Working Pattern: 38 hours Monday-Friday, 7:30 am – 3:36 pm, with standby and overtime opportunities that can increase earnings by approximately £8,000-£10,000.

All PPE, tools, van, and fuel card are provided.

What you should bring to the role

* A strong practical understanding of operational plant and control systems, including experience with Wonderware (desirable), ClearSCADA, relay logic, and PLCs (Rockwell & Allen Bradley). Ability to read circuit diagrams and fault find is essential. Experience with inverter drives is preferred.
* Experience working with instrumentation such as flow meters, pressure sensors, ultrasonics, and telemetry.
* Qualifications: HNC level or City and Guilds Part 2/NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in electrical subjects.
* Ability to prioritize tasks and self-motivate.
* A valid driving license is essential, as the role involves travel across multiple sites.

What we are looking for in you

* A self-motivated individual eager to learn and contribute to the team with a can-do attitude.
* Responsiveness to faults, curiosity, and problem-solving skills.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Teamwork and proactive communication.
* Willingness to be trained in safety procedures and awareness of health and safety standards.

What’s in it for you?

* Competitive salary up to £45,000 depending on skills and experience.
* Standby rota payments and overtime, potentially increasing earnings by £8,000-£10,000 annually after training.
* Holiday entitlement starting at 24 days, increasing to 28 with service, plus bank holidays.
* Contributory pension scheme (up to 12%).
* Annual medical assessments.
* Benefits scheme offering discounts and well-being support.
