A respected Scottish salmon producer with a long track record in responsible farming is looking to appoint a Fish Biologist to support fish health, welfare and environmental monitoring across its Sutherland operations. This is a key role within a company known for low‑volume, high‑care farming, strong ethical standards and a commitment to innovation in fish health and welfare.
Working closely with the Fish Health Manager, you’ll play a central part in monitoring stock condition, supporting treatment strategies, and ensuring the highest standards of welfare across marine, freshwater and cleanerfish operations. This is an opportunity to join a business that values scientific rigour, proactive decision‑making and a hands‑on approach to fish health.
What you’ll be doing
* Monitor fish health and welfare across marine sites, including mortality trends, disease indicators and water‑quality conditions
* Carry out routine sampling, health checks and data analysis, ensuring findings are communicated clearly to site teams and management
* Support the development and implementation of treatment strategies, including reviewing efficacy and ensuring compliance with withdrawal periods
* Oversee cleanerfish health, inputs and movements, reporting on welfare and supporting best‑practice use across sites
* Assist with broodstock and freshwater health monitoring, including pre‑transfer assessments, vaccination checks and smolt testing
* Maintain accurate records, health reports, risk assessments and compliance documentation in line with company and regulatory standards
What we’re looking for
* Experience in fish health, aquaculture biology or a related scientific field
* Strong understanding of fish welfare, environmental monitoring and disease indicators
* Confident analysing data, identifying trends and communicating findings to operational teams
* Comfortable working across marine sites in all weather, with a hands‑on approach to sampling and husbandry
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to maintain accurate records and support compliance requirements
* A proactive, collaborative mindset with the confidence to advise, challenge and support site teams when needed
Why join?
* Work with a company recognised for its high‑welfare, low‑density farming model
* Be part of a small, specialist fish‑health team with real influence on stock outcomes
* Opportunities to contribute to research projects, trials and continuous improvement
* A role that blends scientific rigour with hands‑on fieldwork in one of Scotland’s most beautiful coastal regions
