About the Role

We are recruiting on behalf of a large and inclusive secondary academy seeking an outstanding Lead Practitioner in Science to strengthen teaching and learning across the faculty.

Shaping excellent teaching is central to this role. The successful candidate will model high‑quality Science teaching, support colleagues through coaching and professional development, and help drive improvement so that every learner experiences ambitious, inclusive, and effective Science education.

This is a high‑impact leadership role within a collaborative, values‑driven environment, offering the opportunity to influence practice at scale and make a meaningful difference to pupil outcomes.

Applications are welcomed from existing Lead Practitioners, as well as experienced Science teachers ready to work towards Lead Practitioner accreditation, with appropriate support provided.

The Role: Lead Practitioner in Science

As Lead Practitioner in Science, you will be a visible model of excellent classroom practice and a key contributor to faculty and whole‑school improvement.

Working closely with subject leaders and senior staff, you will help embed strong pedagogical practice, support curriculum development, and build a culture of reflection, ambition, and continuous professional growth.

What You Will Do

* Model consistently high‑quality Science teaching and exemplary classroom practice
* Develop and share high‑quality resources that support excellent teaching and learning
* Lead coaching, mentoring, training, and appraisal‑linked development activities
* Use data to identify teaching and pupil needs and plan targeted improvement strategies
* Evaluate impact and refine approaches based on evidence and outcomes
* Coordinate monitoring and evaluation activities, including lesson observations, learning walks, and work scrutiny
* Support curriculum development and promote inclusive, research‑informed pedagogy
* Contribute to wider academy improvement planning and professional learning culture

* An outstanding Science practitioner with a strong track record of impact
* Experience coaching, mentoring, or supporting the development of colleagues
* Secure understanding of research‑informed pedagogy and effective curriculum design
* Confidence using data to identify priorities and evaluate improvement strategies
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills
* Ability to influence teaching and learning beyond your own classroom
* Accredited Lead Practitioner status, or readiness to work towards accreditation with support
