Stafford Lawrence is proud to partner with a growing, multi-disciplinary PQS Organisation / Construction Cost Consultancy looking to expand their team in the South West.
Known for their human‑centric approach and strong regional pipeline, our client provides a collaborative environment with genuine career progression. Due to an influx of new project wins, they are urgently seeking a hands‑on Cost Consultant / Quantity Surveyor who can also act as an Employer's Agent (EA) for key residential and social housing schemes across the Somerset, Bristol, and Devon regions.
The Role of the Quantity Surveyor Job Somerset
Based out of the Weston‑Super‑Mare office with flexible hybrid working, you will take ownership of projects from inception to completion. Reporting directly to the Regional Director of Cost, you will be the primary point of contact for clients, managing budgets, timelines, and main contractor delivery.
Key Responsibilities
* Act as Quantity Surveyor and Employer’s Agent on a diverse portfolio, with a heavy emphasis on affordable/social housing frameworks, alongside commercial and private residential developments.
* Manage post‑contract administration, cost reporting, and contract processes (JCT/NEC).
* Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, overseeing main contractors to ensure compliant, cost‑effective delivery.
* Cultivate and maintain strong local client relationships, working autonomously while contributing to the wider regional team.
Candidate Requirements
* Education: A degree or formal qualification in a construction‑related discipline (Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or Estimating).
* Background: Ideally, experience working within a Professional Quantity Surveying (PQS) firm or Construction Consultancy. Candidates from a Main Contractor background will be highly considered if they possess strong, demonstrable experience in the Social Housing sector.
* Sector Knowledge: Experience navigating a mix of sectors, specifically Social Housing, Affordable Warmth schemes, or high‑density residential builds.
* Mobility: A full, clean UK driving licence is essential, as the role requires regular travel to client sites across Somerset, Bristol, and Devon.
* Location: Candidates must be based in, or genuinely looking to relocate to, the Somerset area. Relocation applicants from within the UK are warmly welcomed.
