Overview:
Connor Construction (South West) Ltd is a leading provider of specialist services to the Highways and Road Construction industry, supplying a world-class fleet of surfacing and planing machinery alongside the expertise and manpower to match. We are seeking a proactive and highly competent Transport Manager to oversee the daily coordination of our plant and equipment movements, including specialist spray tanker operations. This pivotal role sits at the heart of our transport function, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient logistics across multiple sites. Reporting directly to the Operations Director and senior leadership, the successful candidate will bring strategic oversight, hands-on operational control, and a deep understanding of Operator Licence obligations within a fast-paced construction and resurfacing environment.
Key Responsibilities (but not limited to):
* Oversee the day-to-day organisation of plant and equipment site movements and spray tanker operations, ensuring full compliance with DVSA requirements, tachograph legislation, transport regulations, and all Operator Licence undertakings
* Monitor driver hours, licence validity, and CPC training requirements
* Schedule and record vehicle maintenance, inspections, and safety checks
* Maintain accurate records for consignments, drivers, and vehicles
* Investigate and resolve operational issues, including contract deviations and service failures
* Stay informed of changes in transport legislation and industry standards
* Take appropriate action to address non-compliance or performance concerns
* Support continuous improvement of transport procedures and service delivery
* Demonstrate proven experience as a Transport Manager in a regulated environment
What We're Looking For:
* A valid CPC qualification with a strong working knowledge of Operator Licence obligations; International CPC is highly desirable
* Proven expertise in tachograph legislation, the Working Time Directive, and overall fleet compliance
* Strong leadership, communication, and record-keeping skills, with the ability to engage confidently across all levels
* A proactive approach to risk management, with the confidence to challenge non-compliance and uphold statutory responsibilities
* Experience within the road resurfacing or plant hire sector is preferred, though not essential
