Job Purpose
The Senior Finishing Technician is responsible for supervising and executing finishing processes, including machine polishing, hand polishing, powder coating, painting, and other surface treatments as required by product specifications.
A sound knowledge of surface preparation is required. We are looking for someone to bring experience and expertise to develop and improve the finishing section of the business.
Potential for career development with opportunities to attain level 3 CML qualification. Team leader / supervisor role.
Main duties and responsibilities
* Supervise and execute finishing processes, including machine polishing, hand polishing, coating, painting, or other surface treatments based on product requirements.
* Perform quality control on items from metalwork or pass them to wiring, ensuring finished products meet quality standards, and make necessary adjustments for optimal results.
* Estimate finishing times for production orders to assist with planning and scheduling.
* Report delays or product issues to the Production Supervisor.
* Assign workloads to operatives, attend production meetings, and supervise the team on the shop floor.
* Collaborate with the Head of Manufacturing to set and improve departmental practices and machinery.
* Follow company standard operating procedures, including 5S and health and safety protocols.
Quality & Continuous Improvement
* Maintain quality standards and adhere to all processes and procedures.
* Contribute ideas for continuous improvement to enhance process efficiency, equipment performance, and product quality.
Health & Safety
* Maintain a safe and clean work environment by educating staff on equipment and resource use, ensuring compliance with policies.
* Follow all health and safety procedures and report any risks.
General
* Meet all KPIs and targets.
* Adhere to company policies, including health and safety, quality assurance, and equality and diversity.
* Perform any other duties appropriate to the role.
* Maintain flexibility and work overtime when required.
Knowledge and Experience Required
* Knowledge of finishing processes: machine & hand polishing, powder coating, antiquing, sandblasting, wet spray.
* COSHH trained and familiar with H&S procedures for the department.
* Experience in creating various finishes and color matching.
* Experience in production line quality control.
* Previous supervisory experience.
* Experience in task planning and assignment.
* Knowledge of BS EN 60598 standards and legislation.

Desirable Qualifications
* Finishing or manufacturing qualification (e.g., BTEC/NVQ).
