Head of Finance and Central Services


Location: Bristol (Hybrid)

Salary: £60,000

Hours: 37.5 hours

Contract: Permanent


Yolk Recruitment’s Public Sector and Not-for-Profit division is proud to be partnering with a Bristol based charity who supports older and vulnerable people live safely and independently in their own homes for their next Head of Finance and Central Services.


About the Role

Reporting to the CEO, you will be the senior leader for finance, governance, and central services, including HR, IT, GDPR, and facilities. You’ll provide strategic financial oversight, shape organisational planning, strengthen risk management, and support the leadership team in delivering our ambitious vision.


This is a role for a strategic, values-driven professional who combines commercial and financial expertise with compassion, collaboration, and a commitment to social impact.


Key Responsibilities

The Head of Finance and Central Services will:

* Lead financial strategy, budgets, forecasts, and reporting to drive organisational sustainability.
* Ensure robust governance, compliance, and risk management.
* Oversee central services to support operational excellence across the organisation.
* Provide insight and advice to the CEO and Board for effective strategic decision-making.
* Support organisational growth and development, including new business opportunities.
* Develop financial and commercial strategies that support the long-term sustainability, working closely with the CEO, Management Board and Leadership Team.
* Support strong governance, accountability and risk management across the organisation in line with statutory, constitutional and regulatory requirements, including the adopted Code of Governance.
* Act as Company Secretary, ensuring timely submission of statutory reports (including FCA annual returns) and excellent governance record-keeping.
* Lead the preparation and delivery of annual budgets, forecasts and operating plans.
* Oversee all financial reporting, including monthly financial reviews, cashflow management, BVAs, quarterly management accounts, and year-end statutory accounts and its subsidiaries.
* Manage the annual audit process and maintain strong working relationships with auditors, bankers and insurers.
* Ensure effective financial controls, policies and procedures, working closely with the Finance Team.
* Monitor and report on organisational financial performance and cash position, taking proactive action where needed.
* Review payroll calculations monthly.
* Act as a bank signatory and ensure appropriate financial authorisations are followed.
* Work with the Data Analyst to develop financial and performance reporting for internal teams, commissioners and funders.
* Oversee organisational data management, ensuring strong data controls and compliance with GDPR.
* Own the relationship with the outsourced IT provider and support the maintenance and development of IT systems and infrastructure.
* Lead organisational risk management, ensuring risks are identified, mitigated and documented in risk registers submitted to the Board bi-annually.
* Ensure full compliance with statutory, regulatory and information governance requirements across the organisation.
* Oversee the effective deployment of organisational resources (human, financial, technological and physical) to deliver strategic priorities.
* Oversee the People Support function, ensuring relevant HR policies and procedures remain current and compliant.
* Oversee the management of facilities and organisational equipment through close working with operational colleagues.


Essential Requirements

The Head of Finance and Central Services will need:

* ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or ICAS qualified with senior leadership experience.
* Proven experience leading diverse teams and translating strategy into practical plans.
* Strong financial literacy, business acumen, and experience in service-focused organisations.
* A values-led leader who inspires, empowers, and role-model’s progressive ways of working.
