We would like to extend an invitation to join our well established Urology CNS team across the county of Worcestershire, to work clinically as a urology nurse specialist providing a range of nurse led clinics, support the service and support the department with expert knowledge and skills. Identifying and directing patient referrals from the GP and other sources to the most appropriate clinic. To provide a high standard of evidenced based care for patients with urological conditions. To provide teaching and clinical expertise across the hospital site and community teams with a passion for improving quality. To offer ideas to improve the quality of service to our patient based on Trust Values. This role is a 12 month fixed term contract/secondment. This vacancy is currently only open to Herefordshire and Worcestershire NHS staff.

Main duties and responsibilities
* Rotate through a range of nurse led clinics (e.g., erectile dysfunction, LUTS assessment and planning, intravesical clinics, catheter clinics, TWOCs) and introduce new clinics if appropriate.
* Visit patients on wards to offer support, provide phone support, and post-operative major phone support.
* Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to advise and support delivery of specialised patient care across professional boundaries.
* Undertake nurse led clinics and maintain high standards of nursing care through careful planning.
* Work autonomously to deliver specialist clinical care for the patient group, based on research-based principles to enhance quality of care.

Responsibilities and duties
The CNS role includes expert clinical practice, education, leadership, management and research. Responsibilities include liaising with the multidisciplinary team, running nurse led clinics, and maintaining high standards of care. You will be expected to work with urology and uro-oncology teams and collaborate with other health professionals in the acute and primary care settings. You will be required to have knowledge of urological conditions and treatments including continence issues, benign diseases and urological cancers, and to communicate effectively and inspire change. You will be part of a supportive urology nursing team dedicated to developing skills and knowledge across the team.
Clinical responsibilities include maintaining professional behaviour, managing caseloads in nurse led clinics, providing urological services for benign disease, continence and erectile dysfunction (including urodynamics, LUTS assessments, intravesical and painful bladder treatments), liaising with the MDT, contributing to quality management, evaluating service, implementing nursing practice improvements, and adhering to legal and professional standards.
General responsibilities include infection control, adherence to policies, collaboration with the Infection Control Team, monitoring clinical practice, maintaining ward environments, and contributing to governance structures. Duties may evolve over time in consultation with the post holder.
Clinical responsibilities (detailed)

* Provide expert urological nursing services covering benign disease, continence, erectile dysfunction, including urodynamics, LUTS assessments, intravesical treatments and painful bladder treatments.
* Collaborate with MDTs in patient services, other specialties, primary care and external agencies.
* Contribute to quality management, service evaluation, and implementation of improvements in nursing practices.

* Promote development of core, specialist and advanced nursing practice, linked to clinical governance and patient safety.
* Promote new nursing practices with education and training plans and engage in research and evidence-based practice.

Patient safety and governance
* Ensure high standards of care and use clinical quality indicators and patient feedback.
* Assess patient care needs and develop, implement and evaluate care plans with clear communication to patients and families.

Policy and service development
* Ensure compliance with Trust policies (Infection Prevention, Confidentiality, Health & Safety, Equal Opportunities).
* Develop and implement local and Trust-wide policies, procedures, guidelines and protocols.

* Maintain ward environments, clean and safe, with clear walkways and properly stored equipment.

* Develop skills in managing non-pay budgets and investigating incidents and complaints with appropriate actions.

Person specification
Skills and knowledge
* Up-to-date with current professional practice issues and national policy drivers for acute care.
* Ability to apply quality standards (e.g., CQC, NICE) in clinical settings.
* Experience in managing staff and students, and in research-based practice.
* Good organisational and clinical governance awareness.
* Experience and knowledge in urology or related fields; capable of managing clinical caseload and leading change.
* Able to work across professional and organisational boundaries and motivate others.
* Strong communication and leadership skills; able to work in a changing environment and deliver on deadlines.
Qualifications
* First Level Registration with evidence of continuing professional development.
* Evidence of management experience/training; degree level.
* NMC recognised Teaching/Assessing qualification; willingness to undertake HCA module at degree level.
Experience
* Relevant experience as a band 5/6 in urology; assesses patients, plans and implements care.
* Experience in a defined area of nursing care with MDT collaboration; supervises students and ward nurses; may undertake research and clinical audits.
* Competent catheterisation skills; desirable: flexible cystoscopies, diathermy, stent removal, intravesical therapies, order investigations.
Personal qualities
