Overview
Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is seeking to appoint a Consultant Clinical Lead in HIV and Genitourinary medicine following the retirement of the current post holder. The post holder will be working for 10 programmed activities (PA) per annum with any additional PAs subject to negotiation, depending on the circumstances. The post holder will join the current medical team and contribute to providing high quality care for management of HIV, sexually transmitted infections and all forms of contraception. The service includes inpatient and outpatient care for HIV infected patients and is supported by a dedicated pharmacist and clinical psychologist. The post holder will participate in a 1 in 3 on call Consultant rota during weekdays and weekends, alongside an HIV and sexual health Consultant at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust. The integrated sexual health service also includes a Consultant in sexual and reproductive health for complex contraception cases (including deep implants and misplaced intrauterine devices). The post holder will deliver a high-quality HIV and integrated contraception and sexual health service to outpatients attending WISH Walsall Sexual Health Service, including a mix of complex and non-complex sexual health and contraception advice with opportunities for LARC procedures depending on competency level.
Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is an integrated Trust and the sole provider of NHS acute care in Walsall, serving a population of 284,300. Services are delivered at the Manor Hospital and across community settings. The Trust has modern facilities including a Critical Care Unit, Neonatal Unit, Obstetric Theatre and Integrated Assessment Unit facilities. An Urgent Emergency Care Centre opened in March 2023, expanding emergency care facilities and clinical space.
Responsibilities
* Provide at least 1 HIV outpatient clinic per week, including follow-up and new patients.
* Provide support to wards caring for HIV-positive inpatients.
* Take an active role in the management and development of the HIV and sexual health service, with opportunities to pursue leadership interests.
* Support and provide teaching to undergraduates, junior medical staff, nurses and primary care colleagues as required within the clinical setting.
* Provide specialist advice to colleagues within the Trust to optimise patient care across specialties as required.
* Demonstrate involvement with clinical governance, risk management and audit processes.
* Participate in continued professional development, multidisciplinary and clinical meetings, and other postgraduate activity to ensure up-to-date clinical care.
* Participate in mandatory training, annual appraisals and the annual job planning process and revalidation.
* Contribute to the directorate team system of cover for annual, study and professional leave and deputise for absent colleagues as far as practicable.
* Maintain professional standards as set out by the General Medical Council.
