About the Company
Capital on Tap started because small businesses were underserved by big banks. We offer a best‑in‑class business credit card, SME‑focused spend management platform, and a growing suite of tools that make running a small business easier.
We have 1,000+ employees, £20bn in annual card spend, 200,000+ customers, and over 17,000 Trustpilot reviews averaging 4.7 stars.
This is a hybrid role in our London (EC1Y 8LZ) offices, 3 days per week.
What You'll Be Doing
Risk Analytics sits at the heart of how we make decisions across Credit, Fraud and Financial Crime. As a data analyst you’ll own risk problems end‑to‑end, from spotting them in the data to shipping models, strategies and tooling that solve them.
* Write complex SQL queries to interrogate transaction and customer data, identify anomalies, and surface emerging risk patterns.
* Design and build fraud and financial crime detection rules from scratch, set thresholds based on data, and iterate based on real‑world performance.
* Own rules end‑to‑end, monitor outcomes, and iterate fixes as necessary.
* Analyze lending and card data to understand customer behavior and where fraud and fincrime risk sits in our product set.
* Support investigation and escalation workflows to specialist operations teams.
* Collaborate with Compliance, Risk, and Product to embed risk controls at the product layer.
* Contribute to the ongoing improvement of our transaction monitoring approach as the function matures.
We're Looking For
* Strong data analyst background in a fintech or digital lending environment.
* Deep understanding of SMB transaction data and comfort working with messy, high‑volume datasets.
* Proficient SQL (including CTEs, window functions, and distinguishing WHERE vs HAVING).
* A genuine builder instinct – you actively seek problems in data and fix them.
* Experience solving analytical problems end‑to‑end rather than passing logic to a tech team.
* Comfortable working in a small, fast‑moving team with ambiguous problems.
* Experience building data pipelines in dbt (useful but not essential).
* Python or R for analysis beyond SQL (useful but not essential).
* Hands‑on financial crime experience including sanctions/PEPs screening, transaction monitoring platforms, and regulated reporting.
* Hands‑on credit card fraud experience including application and card fraud.
