Job overview

Are you a friendly, organised individual with excellent communication skills? We are looking for a dedicated Pharmacy Assistant to join our team.

As the initial point of contact for patients, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals, you will be responsible for:

1. Answering and directing telephone enquiries in a professional and helpful manner.
2. Receiving prescriptions and ensuring they are processed efficiently.
3. Managing pharmacy-specific work at the hatch, including patient interactions.
4. Providing exceptional customer service to both patients and healthcare providers.
5. Assisting with administrative tasks such as filing, organising, and general office duties.

Main duties of the job

9. Ensure all patients and hospital staff are attended to promptly in a friendly manner and referred on appropriately.
10. Receive prescriptions according to current protocols including the receipt of prescription charges and tracking prescriptions through the prescription tracking system.
11. Take appropriate prescription charges from patients, usage of the till and ensure prescriptions are completed with payment and non-payment details.
12. Answer the telephone in a courteous, helpful and informative way, gathering the information accurately and dealing with the query in a professional manner.
13. Maintain patient confidentiality.
14. Assist in receipt and storage of pharmacy supplies including storage and loading the Pharmacy robot.
15. Refer questions from patients or healthcare staff to appropriate members of the dispensary team.
16. Use CMM (Pharmacy computer system) to undertake routine checks of stock levels in the Pharmacy, checking expiry dates and ensuring that stock is rotated according to procedures.
17. Carry out general housekeeping duties such as topping-up of bottles and cartons.
18. Assist in collection of information for audits around work delivery, patient waiting times etc.
19. Maintain a clean, safe working environment by cleaning and tidying dispensary.
20. Deliver medicines to the wards and assisting portering staff as required.
21. Accurately complete paperwork gathering all information that is required.
22. Prepare medication for deliveries to wards and external hospitals

Qualifications

Essential criteria

23. Good basic education e.g. (GCSE's or equivalent qualifications) or previous relevant experience

Desirable criteria

24. Level 2 qualification in Pharmacy Services (or in training to gain qualification)

Experience

Essential criteria

25. Recent employment in pharmacy environment or hospital environment
26. Experience in welcoming customers and answering the telephone

Skills

27. Ability to work to Standard Operating Procedures accurately and in a timely fashion
28. To be literate & numerate
29. To work accurately
30. To have a clean and tidy appearance
31. To have a positive attitude and the ability to recognise and embrace new ideas

33. To be courteous with all customers, both internal and external, including members of the public and other healthcare professionals

Special Circumstances

39. Able to travel to other sites and off site as necessary
