Position Purpose


The AMDE is a new to industry - or limited experience - apprentice design engineer able to be involved in design phases of projects alongside their studies. Studies and time out of the office will be inline with that contractually agreed. The AMDE will be given supervised work packages on elements or kits and will be aware of progress and liaise with the senior engineer. The AMDE must have an interest and understanding of the cutting edge of technology in relevant subject areas.

An effective AMDE will work on developing their communication skills alongside their technical studies and maintain a positive approach to all challenges.

Responsibilities


* General Responsibilities
o Learn the company safety and quality processes.
o Demonstrates a knowledge of standard engineering principles and practices - requires extensive supervision and guidance
o Awareness of TAIT's industry competition.
o Maintains good working relationships and instils confidence in colleagues throughout the organisation at all levels.
o Engages in principles of high-performance leadership and understands importance of them.
o Acquires an understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities. The Engineering Council defines these as:
+ Honesty and integrity
+ Respect for life, law the environment and public good
+ Accuracy and rigour
+ Leadership and communication
* Technical Responsibilities
o Understands the development of new techniques and/or improved processes, documentation, or products. Familiar with company solutions across the range of disciplines.
o Assigned responsibility for project kits or small project elements under supervision of others.
o Included in resolving technical issues - with supervision - to gain expertise through real world application.
o May support the team in mechanical bid preparations.
o Support the design process through assessment and buy in/feedback against schedule and timely alerting of any deviations to aid in department resourcing.
o Develop the design from concept through to detailed design, design reviews and release of production drawings and BOMS.
o Conduct the relevant calculations typically with hand calcs, Excel spreadsheets, FEA and specialist software.
o Support the senior designers/engineers in all project management related tasks.
o Support production department with respective handover meetings from design, technical or commercial queries, update from red-lines, inspection - potentially including planning and supporting internal and external Factory Acceptance Testing and inspection visits.
* Manager Responsibilities
o No managerial responsibilities at this level.
* Communication Skills
o Possesses oral and written communication skills, able and competent across the range of platforms used in TAIT (Outlook, Slack & Zoom).
o Some interaction with clients, suppliers, external & third-party professional bodies & contractors.
o Routinely Interacts with colleagues (internally and externally to the department), and others. Represents the company at all times in a positive fashion whilst building rapport and demonstrating integrity and respect.
o Involved in departmental project meetings and makes presentations, as appropriate.
o Informed of inter-disciplinary project meetings as appropriate i.e. kick-off, post contract reviews etc.


Position Requirements


* Studying towards Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering (typically Mechanical), HND or NVQ level 5 or above.
* Basic 3D CAD Experience desirable but not required.
* Committed to Continuous Professional Development and engaged in Industry seminars, trade shows and activities of relevant professional bodies.
* Typically no experience required
