Speech and Language Therapist - adult neuro inpatients

The Speech &Language Therapist role will be based at our centres in Laverstock (Salisbury) and Ferndown in Dorset as part of anexperienced multidisciplinary team,working with patients undergoing inpatientand residential packages of intensive rehabilitation as well as outpatients and community visits with a variety of complex neurological conditions such as spinal cord injury,stroke, brain injury and progressive conditions.

Hobbs works in partnership with care providers to create bespoke, intensive rehabilitation packages on an inpaient or residential basis, supporting clients to complete ambitious rehabilitation targeted to help them to achieve their goals.

The post-holder will haveskills and experience in neurological rehabilitation across the clinicalpathway, including assessment, treatment planning, and discharge planning forpatients presenting with a range of communication and/or swallowing impairments.

This role would besuited to someone with a passion for neurological rehabilitation who is lookingto develop their clinical skills in adult neurology but would also beappropriate for a dynamic and enthusiastic newly qualified therapist withrelevant placement experience. Supervision and training will be provided, aswell as access to exciting CPD opportunities, including working with advancedneurotechnologies and involvement in national and global research projects.


Main duties of the job

* Assessing patients with acquired physical, cognitive, communication and swallowing impairments using a range of formal and informal assessments.
* Practice safely within the legal and ethical boundaries of the profession.
* Formulate patient-centred goals in conjunction with MDT.
* Create and provide one-to-one and group-based intervention to patients with acquired physical, cognitive, communication and swallowing impairments, using a comprehensive knowledge of evidence-informed practice and treatment options.
* Evaluate patients progress using published outcome measures.
* Liaising regularly with the Hobbs MDT and wider care team.
* Organise and plan the Speech & Language Therapy caseload in Laverstock & Dorset in conjunction with the service lead and other clinical team members to meet the patients and service needs, readjusting plans as situations change or arise.
* Maintain up-to-date and accurate clinical notes using site-specific software and local procedures.
* Write high-quality patient reports, including MDT discharge reports for inpatients.
* Attend and contribute to patient and family meetings, both face-to-face and via video.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* UK-recognised Speech & Language Therapy degree qualification or equivalent.
* HCPC registration.
* Member of the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapy
* Evidence of post-graduate training in dysphagia or other clinically relevent areas would be desirable


Experience

* Knowledge and understanding of Speech & Language Therapy assessment and treatment approaches relating to acquired neurological conditions.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Experience of working as an integrated member of a multidisciplinary team.
* Neurological rehabilitation experience across the clinical pathway.
* Commitment to developing self and others through training, supervision and mentoring.
* Innovative and creative thinking with vision to improve and develop services for the future.
* Confidence engaging with local community services including facilitating patients within the community.
* Ability to work flexibly and adapt to the changing needs of the service.
* Experience of dysphagia assessment and treatment.
