Role Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Assistant Accountant to support the effective financial management of the organisation. The role involves delivering accurate financial reporting, maintaining compliance, and ensuring smooth day-to-day finance operations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Preparation and submission of timely returns to HMRC and pension providers, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
2. Ensuring suppliers are paid accurately and in line with agreed payment terms.
3. Producing fully allocated year-end accounts for audit and liaising with auditors throughout the year.
4. Maintaining strong working relationships with banking partners.
5. Liaising with accounting system providers to ensure system effectiveness.
6. Ensuring all financial policies and procedures are followed and adhered to across the organisation.
7. Responding to staff queries relating to salaries, pensions, and budgets.
8. Maintaining accurate financial records in line with audit requirements.
9. Providing timely and accurate financial information, including variance analysis and recommendations.
10. Processing monthly payroll.
11. Managing the sales ledger, including issuing invoices and resolving related queries.
12. Advising on payroll-related financial matters such as tax, National Insurance, and pension contributions.
13. Producing salary analysis reports.
14. Ensuring regular reconciliation of accounts, codes, and sub-ledgers.
15. Monitoring and managing expenditure, identifying and reporting potential overspend.
16. Managing cashflow to ensure operations remain within agreed financial limits.
17. Supporting the implementation and maintenance of financial controls and procedures.

18. Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and provide clear recommendations.
19. Ability to produce accurate financial information within tight deadlines.
20. Experience managing payroll, reconciliations, and financial reporting processes.
21. Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
22. Proactive approach to improving financial controls and reporting systems.
23. Ability to handle financial queries professionally and efficiently.
