Are you a commercially‑driven leader ready to shape one of Scotland’s most significant energy infrastructure projects? Balfour Beatty is delivering the ASTI substation project in Peterhead and we’re looking for a Managing Quantity Surveyor to play a pivotal role in its success.
The Role
As a Managing Quantity Surveyor, you’ll take commercial ownership of the ASTI project, ensuring rigorous financial and contractual control throughout its lifecycle. You’ll guide a team of QS professionals, support Project Directors and Managers, and drive commercial excellence that safeguards and enhances project profitability.

Key Responsibilities
* Leading a small team of Senior / Quantity Surveyors and setting clear commercial direction
* Developing and delivering a robust commercial strategy to achieve required margins
* Managing cost reporting systems—tracking budgets, forecasts, commitments and deviations
* Ensuring valuations, applications for payment and cash‑flow processes are accurate and timely
* Identifying, valuing and converting variations into agreed orders
* Steering subcontractor tendering, selection and contract management
* Ensuring compliance with company HSE standards and commercial expectations
* Providing monthly cost & value reporting aligned with Balfour Beatty processes
* Preparing and agreeing final accounts with clients and subcontractors
* Using BIM where appropriate to support progress monitoring and commercial reporting
* Championing Zero Harm and contributing to sustainability objectives
Who we're looking for
* Significant experience in Quantity Surveying within major infrastructure or energy projects
* Proven ability to lead, influence and build high‑performing commercial teams
* Strong commercial acumen with deep understanding of margin, risk and cash‑flow management
* Experience managing the commercial performance of complex projects
* A valid CSCS card; professional memberships such as RICS/CIOB are desirable
