Responsibilities
* Manufacturing Engineering team – focus on technical aspects of manufacturing, including production processes, tooling design, and advanced technologies. Work on real-world projects to improve efficiency, support new product introduction, and drive innovation. May involve building Standard Operating Procedures and local process improvements.
* Lean Manufacturing team – focus on continuous improvement, waste reduction, and process optimization. Work with the Lean team to implement tools and methodologies that enhance operational efficiency.
You will be guided by structured goals and objectives and will be responsible for delivering on inspiring projects supported by your People Leader and team. Coaching and mentoring will be provided, and you will have the opportunity to connect with other placement students across the UK.
Locations
This Manufacturing Engineering team opportunity is offered at Cheltenham, Cardiff, Caledonian (Prestwick, Scotland) and Gloucester (Dowty, a GE Aerospace company) sites. Lean Manufacturing roles are at Cardiff and Gloucester sites. During the process we will ask you to share your location and team preferences. Please identify the location that suits you best based on geography and site activity.
With over 1,600 employees, Cheltenham is one of the largest GE Aerospace sites outside the USA and a major contributor to the local economy. The site focuses on the design, development and manufacture of state-of-the-art aircraft power distribution and avionics systems. Our customers include major aerospace manufacturers across commercial, business jet and military applications.
GE Aerospace Wales specializes in maintenance, repair and overhaul of commercial jet engines, based in Nantgarw. The site provides maintenance, repair and overhaul services for engines including the GE90-115B and CFM56, with significant scale and international customer relationships.
GE Aerospace Caledonian is a purpose-built engine overhaul facility near Glasgow Prestwick Airport, a centre of excellence for MRO of CF6 and GEnx engines. Dowty, a GE Aerospace company, is based in Gloucestershire and supplies composite propeller systems for civil and military applications.
Qualifications/Requirements
* Currently studying an Engineering-related bachelor's or integrated master's degree, including Manufacturing, Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Design (Engineering), Materials Science & Engineering, Robotics and Mechatronics, or General Engineering
* On course to achieve a 2:1 degree or above
* Penultimate year of study and returning to education after the placement
