Brighouse
Permanent position
We are working with a chemical company in Brighouse who are seeking a Quality Control Chemist to support their laboratory, primarily involved in the development of additives for textiles.
This role focuses on activities that support the technical team, such as formulation, new product development (NPD) efficacy testing, and data reporting in an ISO 9001 and 14001 compliant laboratory environment.
What You'll Do
You will support an existing chemistry team developing additives for textiles (Cotton, Polyester, Nylon, Wool, etc.) to enhance flame retardancy. The chemistry is tailored to client needs based on performance, ecological factors, cost, and other considerations.
The role involves formulating chemicals on a kilogram scale to evaluate properties and perform statistical analysis of performance characteristics through laboratory testing. Techniques include flame testing, pH, specific gravity, viscosity, and solvent testing. While QC will be a minor part, the majority of your time will be dedicated to customer-centric activities like NPD and formulation.
Your Background
Applicants should be graduates in chemistry or related fields, with some experience in textile testing, formulation, or flame testing preferred. Training will be provided for areas you haven't experienced. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, confident, a team player, and resilient.
Organization and diligence are essential, as your work will be relied upon by others. Initially, the role includes a training and development cycle, with opportunities for progression as you gain experience.
Experience in formulation at a kilo scale, flame testing (adhering to safety standards), working with Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), and COSHH processes will be advantageous. Proficiency with MS Office and accurate data recording are important.
