An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Staff Nurse position within the supportive and friendly team on the Gynaecology Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) at Southlands Hospital and the Gynaecology Day and Ambulatory Unit at Worthing Hospital. We are seeking an enthusiastic nurse passionate about delivering efficient and holistic patient care. The CDC provides urgent assessment and diagnostic investigations, delivering outpatient care for General Gynae, Hysteroscopy, Colposcopy, and Rapid Access clinics (two-week rule suspected cancer). The Gynaecology Day Unit and Ambulatory Unit offer similar diagnostic services on a larger scale. The role involves supporting patients and clinicians to deliver high-standard, sensitive care.
The successful candidate will have a keen interest in expanding their knowledge of gynaecology and will be supported by a multidisciplinary team. Candidates should demonstrate a holistic, adaptable, and caring approach, with effective communication skills and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances. The team will support your skill development within the service.
This is a part-time, cross-site position of 28.5 hours, working Monday to Friday between 08:00-18:00, with shifts from 07:30 to 20:00.
Main duties of the job
1. Provide high-quality nursing care: Assist with assessment and care delivery, ensuring interactions with patients and staff are appropriate and of the highest quality.
2. Effective communication: Demonstrate exemplary communication and customer relation skills; promote positive staff attitudes and knowledge aligned with the Trust's vision 'We Care'.
3. Support clinical services: Assist in the smooth operation of clinics and units, including taking charge when required.

Job responsibilities
Communication
* Provide and receive complex or sensitive information using persuasive, motivational, negotiating, training, empathic, or reassurance skills, including issues related to the Mental Capacity Act, safeguarding, and child protection.
* Communicate sensitively and compassionately with patients and relatives, especially in emotive or distressing situations.
* Provide health education and information to patients and carers.

Service Delivery and Improvement
* Work within the team, manage own workload, and occasionally act as shift coordinator.

* Ensure accurate data entry for audits and reporting.

* Supervise HCAs, receptionists, students, and Nursing Associates daily.
* Support training and act as a Practice Supervisor or Assessor for students.
* Act as unit/clinic coordinator and delegate tasks appropriately.
Patient Care Delivery
* Support patients during clinical procedures, ensuring comfort and safety.
* Ensure informed consent and understanding of clinical procedures.
* Assist clinicians and staff, including chaperoning.
* Advocate for patients' views and communicate effectively with all parties.
* Report concerns appropriately and complete documentation.

Qualifications / Experience
* Interest in women's health.
* Gynaecology experience.
* Ongoing professional development since qualification.

Salary: £29,970 to £36,483 per annum, pro-rata.
