Junior Clinical Fellow - General Surgery
The opportunity has arisen to appoint a Junior Clinical Fellow in the Department of General Surgery, within Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust, based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gateshead.
This post offers the opportunity to gain further experience in a variety of sub-specialities. The post is available until August 2026.
The post is ideal for candidates who have completed Foundation training or equivalent and are awaiting appointment to a Core Surgical Training post or those seeking further surgical training prior taking up an ST post. The department has a good record of post holders going on to gain Core and ST Surgical Training posts.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be involved in delivering care to emergency and elective surgical patients across a variety of settings. Clinical duties will involve ward based care, out-patient clinics and working within the operating theatre department. On-call duties are included within this role.

Job responsibilities
This post, although not recognized by the Royal College of Surgeons for Surgical Training, is an excellent opportunity for a surgical trainee and would be suitable for candidates who have completed Foundation training or equivalent and are awaiting appointment to a Core Surgical Training post or those seeking further surgical training prior taking up an ST post. The department has a good record of CFs going on to gain Core and ST Surgical Training posts.
Clinical audit and research facilities are available and are strongly encouraged.

Person Specification
Experience
* A major interest and expertise in general surgery.
* Evidence of clinical audit.
* NHS experience
* Experience at IM/CT/ST 1 level in the UK or equivalent
* Worked at Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust in the last 12 months
* Relevant and experience in breast & gastrointestinal surgery special interest pertinent to the post.
Qualifications
* MBBS or equivalent
* Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
* Indication of career path
* MRCS part 1
* Additional Degree or Equivalent
