Fantastic opportunity has arisen to join BEAR Scotland’s Fleet team as a Mobile Fitter based in Fort William or Oban (full time).

The North West Trunk Road Unit spans some 1,422km of trunk road through some of the most scenic parts of the country. It also includes 1,501 bridges and structures, including the Kessock Bridge which carries the A9 north of Inverness and the A87 Skye Crossing.

The North West Unit covers a huge area of Scotland, from Thurso and Wick in the very north of the Highlands down to Campbeltown in Argyll and Bute, from Uig on Skye to Perth and Stirling in the central belt.

Role includes:

1. Repair and maintain all HGVs, equipment and plant as required
2. Safe use of variety of tools, including hand tools, power tools and measuring equipment
3. Repair and replace damage or worn parts of vehicle panelling, lights or machinery
4. Carry out vehicle road testing where necessary
5. Carry out inspections of new vehicles, prior to issuing
6. Carry out on-call (out of hours) standby on a week on week off basis
7. When on call respond and action any calls and when required attend site
8. Communicate with team members and supervisors about vehicle performance and maintenance issues
9. Comply with Health and Safety procedures
10. Record work carried out and ensure good housekeeping

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

11. Recognised apprenticeship or related qualification in mechanical/electrical engineering
12. Highly experienced with mechanical knowledge of highway maintenance and winter maintenance vehicles
13. Understanding of Health and Safety at work
14. Able to service, diagnose and repair various types of vehicles
15. Experience of power tools and hand tools
16. Strong attention to details
17. HGV licence preferred but not essential
18. Team player
19. Ability to use own initiative
