Health Safety and Security Advisor – CMR Surgical
Role Overview
We’re looking for an experienced Health Safety and Security (HSS) Advisor to join our team based in Cambridge. The HSS Advisor will focus on implementing and delivering the HSE strategy, ensuring organisational objectives are met and maintaining a positive HSE culture across multi‑site operations.
This role is offered on a hybrid basis, with a minimum of three days a week at our Ely and Cambridge sites.
Responsibilities
* Evaluate workplace environment and develop safety‑management policies and procedures.
* Define HSE procedures in conjunction with operating staff.
* Develop and implement organisational safety programmes, including training and increased awareness.
* Establish and maintain controls and documentation to achieve a positive HSE culture.
* Conduct risk assessments to detect potential hazards and plan precautionary measures.
* Perform day‑to‑day workplace inspections, report and log findings, and ensure close‑out is obtained.
* Ensure manufacturing and production processes meet required safety and environmental standards.
* Ensure workplace tools and equipment meet industry standards and relevant Occupational Health and Safety laws.
* Maintain an appropriate level of awareness, knowledge and preparedness across the organisation.
* Coordinate training programmes for all employees and conduct HSE inductions for new staff, visitors and subcontractors.
* Support investigations of hazards, near‑misses and incidents, and develop recommendations for preventive action.
* Review subcontractor and visitor requirements, including risk assessments, and ensure compliance.
* Prepare HSE documentation and statistical reports, summarising trends and recommendations.
* Present suggestions for continuous improvement and implement changes.
* Use relevant HSE tools and ensure managers understand business requirements and cultural change.
* Enforce HSE policies and procedures throughout the business.
About you
Knowledge and skills required:
* Demonstrable experience in a health and safety position across multi‑site organisations.
* Good working knowledge of health, safety and environmental management systems, current legislation and best practice.
* Experience coaching/mentoring staff.
* Excellent customer‑facing skills (influencing, negotiation, problem solving).
* Research skills backed up by effective written procedures.
* Commitment to continuous improvement.
* Pragmatic, motivated self‑starter.
Qualifications and Experience
* Certificate in Health and Safety, or equivalent.
* Membership of a recognised industry body.
