Walkwood Church of England Middle School are seeking to appoint an exceptional Head of Year who will play a pivotal role in shaping the pastoral care and academic success of our pupils. This role is central to providing high-quality pastoral care alongside maintaining high expectations for all pupils, ensuring the effective leadership of a year group, and fostering a strong sense of community through teamwork. The successful candidate will actively promote and embody the Christian vision and values of the school, creating an environment where every pupil feels supported, valued, and inspired to achieve their full potential. We are looking for a Head of Year who: Co-ordinate, prepare and maintain pastoral programmes for the year group Support colleagues in the delivery of excellence in tutorial work Lead high-quality Collective Worship Provide effective and high-quality pastoral support, fostering an inclusive learning environment where pupils can fully access their learning in a safe environment Contribute to effective transition from other schools, promoting pupil well-being on entry and exit Be an outstanding classroom practitioner Establish and maintain high expectations, offering both challenge and support for all pupils through a fully inclusive approach Share the vision for and deliver a curriculum that links content, skills, and values, building on prior knowledge Be responsive and proactive in securing sustained high standards of learning and teaching Demonstrate flexibility and work effectively as part of a team Communicate effectively with pupils, colleagues, parents, and all stakeholders Engage as a reflective practitioner, continually seeking to improve Show a strong commitment to personal professional development Actively promote and uphold the school’s Christian ethos and values Within Walkwood, each Head of Year works to ensure the maintenance of excellent behaviour of the pupils within the Year group, providing a timely, appropriate and effective response when this is compromised. Safeguarding for, and the well-being of, children within the Year group is paramount. The successful candidate will demonstrate consistently high standards of teaching and excellent classroom management, drawing on the positive behaviour of our pupils. Their approach will enable pupils to flourish through a shared love of learning. They will bring high expectations, excellent subject knowledge, and genuine ambition to the role. Through consistently well-planned and delivered lessons that inspire, engage and challenge, they will ensure pupils are enthusiastic about their learning and make excellent progress.
