Job Summary
We are seeking a Specialist Palliative Care Nurse to join our community team during an exciting time of development. This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone passionate about palliative care and looking to contribute to the NHS 10‑Year Plan. The role involves working alongside a talented, dedicated team to provide the highest quality specialist palliative care, supporting patients, families, and carers across Carlisle and Penrith, with occasional support across North Cumbria or at secondary care sites.
In addition to clinical duties, the post includes operational management of staff and caseloads, requiring strong organisational and leadership skills, alongside a sound knowledge of the governance agenda to ensure our patients are safe.
This role offers the chance to develop specialist skills, make a tangible difference in patients' lives, and contribute to the evolution of specialist palliative care across the region.
Main duties of the job
* Provide expert assessment, planning, and delivery of specialist palliative and end‑of‑life care.
* Lead and manage a team, including caseload allocation, supervision, and operational management.
* Ensure clinical governance, risk management, and patient safety standards are met.
* Mentor and educate staff, patients, families, and the wider multidisciplinary team.
* Contribute to service development, quality improvement, and strategic initiatives.
* Collaborate effectively across teams and sites to ensure continuity of care.
