This post is available as a result of retirement and service development. Moray Mental Health Services recognises the importance of an effective and healthy work‑life balance. All Consultant Psychiatrist posts have the option of protected SPA time within their job plan.
Location and Community
The post is based at Dr Gray’s Hospital, Elgin, a modern District General Hospital with a range of specialties and diagnostic facilities. Since April 2016 the Integrated Joint Board has formalised close working with General Practice and local authorities, and the consultant will provide input to the east Moray catchment area covering the Maryhill GP practice.
Elgin thrives as a centre of administration, education, tourism and trade. It offers recreational activities such as golf, fishing, hill walking, surfing, canoeing, cycling, horse riding and winter sports, making it an attractive place to live and work in Scotland with good transport links to the rest of the UK.

Responsibilities
* Provide consultant input and leadership within the east Moray catchment area.
* Contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
* Engage in audit and other elements of clinical governance.
* Participate in the Continuing Professional Development Programme of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, with all costs covered by NHS Grampian.
* Engage in annual appraisal towards revalidation.
* Work with the consultant team to agree a detailed job plan that reflects service needs and the candidate’s experience, skills and interests.
* Support research and maintain links with the University of Aberdeen Departments of Mental Health and Psychology.
Qualifications and Registration
* Full registration with a licence to practise with the GMC is required before starting in post.
* UK‑trained doctors should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within six months of confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register.
* CESR (Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) or Portfolio Pathway route doctors are eligible only after registration award.
* Doctors with an International Recognised Specialist Qualification approved by the GMC should have confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register.
* Doctors with appropriate specialist training who are not on the GMC Specialist Register can be considered for a Locum Consultant post (up to 12 months) if no substantive Consultant appointment is made.
Working Patterns and Job Plan
Candidates unable to work full time for personal reasons will be considered for an amended job description. A job plan will be agreed at the time of appointment to meet service needs and reflect the candidate’s experience and interests.
