Overview
Job summary. The post holder is responsible for and will work as part of the multidisciplinary team and deputise for the Ward Manager in their absence, managing in-patient services. Assist in developing the team in all aspects of clinical governance and ensure that PTHB policies and procedures are adhered to.
Responsibilities
* Band 6 deputy ward manager to complement the team. You will assist the ward manager in the leadership, management and development of the nursing team, providing a high level of clinical care that is evidence based and effective.
* Work closely with the ward manager to co-ordinate staff training and ward coverage using e-rostering, undertake appraisals, and be responsible for managing the ward in the absence of the ward manager.
* Support a multidisciplinary approach with nursing, therapy and medical staff to deliver excellent nursing care and follow Powys Teaching Health Board core values (respect, trust, integrity, working together, kindness and caring, fairness and equality).
* Demonstrate a strong role model in professional practice and clinical governance.
Qualifications and experience
* Essential: 1st Level Registered Nurse.
* Up to date portfolio and evidence of professional development.
* Significant experience as a registered nurse; ability to demonstrate professional achievements and activity in meeting clinical governance requirements; experience and qualifications as a mentor to student nurses.
* Desirable: Post basic academic studies at diploma or degree level; post-basic qualification with supervision in a defined therapeutic clinical intervention; ability to articulate effectiveness with other team members; management/leadership training; teaching/facilitation of groups.
Other requirements
* Able to work shifts.
* Willingness to facilitate groups in the evenings or at weekends (desirable).
* Ability to speak Welsh is desirable.
* Excellent communication and organisational skills; evidence of leadership and achievement in driving and motivating a staff team; awareness of national developments and standards; knowledge of nursing interventions with up-to-date information and research; ICT literate (IM&T).
