EA SERVICE: Quality, Safety, Health and Environment (QSHE) Service
REPORTS TO: Senior Quality, Energy and Sustainability Manager
RESPONSIBLE FOR: The post holder will have direct line management responsibility for up to 5 staff and will oversee the strategic and operational management of climate mitigation, adaptation planning, climate literacy, carbon reporting, environmental management, and sustainable initiatives. The goal is to improve climate performance across diverse projects to meet the Climate Change Reporting Bodies Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2024. The role includes leadership for 30+ technical staff, managing multidisciplinary teams, and collaborating with senior EA colleagues, external partners, and stakeholders to deliver climate change ambitions and legislative compliance. The role also involves advising the Voluntary Grammar and Grant Maintained sectors as needed.
JOB PURPOSE
The purpose is to lead the development, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of EA’s Climate and Sustainability Strategy and Action Plan, aiming to reduce GHG emissions and enhance climate resilience across Schools and the EA Estate. The post holder will ensure effective climate and sustainability management, embed climate change in decision-making, and support legislative compliance and transformational change in climate education and data management. Collaboration with internal and external stakeholders is essential to align climate ambitions with the EA’s goals. The role includes overseeing data analysis, reporting, and supporting decision-making to reduce emissions and promote behavioral change. The post also involves designing and maintaining complex processes related to climate and sustainability, preparing reports, and supporting continuous service improvement.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The responsibilities include developing and implementing climate strategies, managing compliance, leading technological and data innovations, embedding climate literacy, establishing monitoring systems, reporting progress, building partnerships, conducting audits, managing resources, engaging staff, ensuring policy integration, legislative compliance, and representing EA externally. The role also involves providing leadership within the team, contributing to strategic planning, managing finances, fostering partnerships, and ensuring quality assurance. The post holder will support service development, oversee financial resources, and promote effective communication and consultation with stakeholders. Additional duties include responding to inquiries, supporting staff development, preparing reports, and contributing to service reviews and legislative compliance.

Following governance procedures, managing budgets, and ensuring value for money.

Building partnerships, developing communication systems, and participating in meetings with stakeholders.

Performing additional duties as required, maintaining policies, and ensuring adaptability to service needs.
