About the Team
The evals team includes Mikita Balesni, Jérémy Scheurer, Alex Meinke, Rusheb Shah, Bronson Schoen, and Axel Højmark, managed and advised by Marius Hobbhahn. Collaboration occurs within the evals team, with occasional interaction with interpretability and governance teams. Full team details are available here.
About the Role
We seek research scientists, research engineers, and software engineers with diverse experience, encouraging applications even without current team-specific experience. We value diversity and inclusivity.
The evals team focuses on:
* Safety case conceptual work on scheming
* Building evaluations for scheming-related properties
* Publishing evaluation results to the public or stakeholders
* Creating model organisms demonstrating deceptive behaviors
* Applied interpretability work
* Designing AI control protocols (starting Q2 2025)
* Developing a software stack supporting these efforts
Candidate Characteristics
We welcome candidates with skills in:
* Prompting and steering LLMs
* Using LLMs in workflows
* Fine-tuning and RLHF
* Software engineering (APIs, data science, system design)
* Empirical research experience
* Scientific mindset and collaborative values
* Additional skills in AI control and cybersecurity are a plus
