Accommodation Officer – Housing (Temporary Role)
Are you passionate about tackling homelessness and supporting communities? Join our Private Sector Initiatives Team in Newport as an Accommodation Officer and play a key role in delivering comprehensive housing management services. This 15-week temporary position offers a rewarding opportunity to secure accommodation for vulnerable households and prevent homelessness across the city.
Responsibilities
* Deliver intensive housing management for Temporary, Transitional, and Settled Accommodation, ensuring high standards and compliance with health and safety guidelines.
* Secure placements for individuals with housing needs, monitoring residence duration and supporting transitions to alternative accommodation where necessary.
* Minimise rent arrears by managing charges and liaising with Housing Benefits and partners to maximise funding.
* Provide advice and signposting to households on housing options, working closely with social housing providers, statutory agencies, and voluntary organisations.
* Support private landlords to sustain tenancies for homeless or at-risk households, preventing homelessness.
* Contribute to homelessness policy reviews, propose innovative solutions, and develop multi-agency protocols.
* Maintain accurate records, manage voids, and ensure timely repairs to keep accommodation at high standards.
* Participate in out-of-hours homelessness services and deputise for managers as needed.

Requirements
* Essential: Experience in housing management, tenancy support, or homelessness services.
* Essential: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with diverse stakeholders and manage sensitive situations.
* Essential: Knowledge of health and safety, data protection, and equalities policies.
* Desirable: Familiarity with Welsh housing legislation and multi-agency working.
* Must have: Eligibility to work in the UK, Criminal Convictions Declaration, CV; Confidentiality Agreement required upon offer acceptance.
* Ability to travel within Newport and participate in out-of-hours rotas.
