Overview
This role supports Cencora's wholesale distribution services in Europe through Alliance Healthcare. The Transport Leader will join Alliance Healthcare UK's new, next-generation Central Logistics Centre (CLC) in Birmingham and play a pivotal role in launching this facility. The CLC features advanced automation and robotics to redefine how Alliance Healthcare manages and delivers medical, health and beauty products to customers across the UK. Job Scale: to manage all transport operations (drivers and fleet) within the company’s financial and operational objectives, ensuring legal compliance. Focus on enhancing the brand and delivering excellent customer service, leading on-site behaviours and continuous improvement. This role is identified as a key position for developing future senior leaders within the business.
Responsibilities
* People Leadership: take responsibility for all areas of people management for direct reports, coaching, talent development, and motivating the team through effective leadership.
* Manage driver rotas to ensure trained cover for absences and maintain operational continuity.
* Provide coaching and guidance to team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
* Manage teams, including those at remote locations, ensuring consistent communication and operational alignment.
* Conduct performance reviews and provide timely feedback to all team members.
* Foster an inclusive and supportive team environment, promoting diversity and ensuring all team members feel valued and empowered.
* Cost Management and Budget Control: ensure transport operational costs remain within budget with robust control mechanisms and address variances to maintain financial efficiency.
* Build a robust working relationship with the appointed transport finance lead.
* Compliance and Legal Standards: ensure drivers comply with hours, tachograph rules, and speed limits; maintain vehicles to company and legislative standards; ensure safety and reliability; ensure documentation is completed accurately and in line with statutory requirements.
* Fleet Maintenance and Records Management: oversee service and maintenance records, complete monthly Fleet KPIs, participate in internal fleet audits, and manage temperature-controlled distribution operations.
* Ensure all vehicles and processes meet temperature-sensitive goods requirements; manage a mixed fleet of LGVs and LCVs, including remotely based vehicles.
* Customer Service and Delivery Standards: ensure deliveries meet service standards, investigate issues promptly, perform remedial actions, and maintain a customer-focused approach.
* Health and Safety Compliance: lead the Health and Safety agenda for transport, conduct risk assessments, and promote a culture of safety.
* Continuous Improvement and Process Development: recommend process improvements, implement corporate procedures consistently, and drive a culture of continuous improvement across the Service Centre and satellite sites.
* Independent Decision-Making: operate on own initiative as the site Fleet and Transport Manager, resolving transport challenges promptly and effectively.
* Key Working Relationships: collaborate with internal teams (CLC management, regional transport and warehouse teams, Fleet and Engineering, Quality and EHS, Fleet compliance) and external partners (upstream/downstream customers, external audit bodies, third-party providers, asset maintenance).
* Note: Some UK travel required with overnight stays and attendance at meetings outside normal hours, including evenings and weekends. Full driving licence required. All people leader roles at the Central Logistics Centre will be on call for emergency orders and weekend work.

Essential Requirements
* CPC holder: a Certificate of Professional Competence is essential.
* Proven experience in a fleet or transport management role with a track record of compliance and operational efficiency.
* Experience managing a mixed fleet of LGVs and LCVs, including remotely based vehicles.
* Experience in a highly regulated and audited environment with strong compliance.
* Clear, engaging communication skills to interact with team members, customers, and stakeholders; proven leadership and development of teams.
* Experience in investigating and resolving customer service issues; familiarity with audits and action plans.
* Ability to remain composed under pressure and manage emergencies or schedule changes.
