Position summary
Specialist Biomedical Scientist (Multidisciplinary) – Band 6 or Trainee Biomedical Scientist (Annex section 21 para 2 (ii)). This is an opportunity for an experienced HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist to work in a busy department providing a full range of clinical and diagnostic services to NHS Tayside, North‑East Fife and South Grampian. The Blood Sciences Department operates from Ninewells Hospital in Dundee and Perth Royal Infirmary in Perth.
Key responsibilities and working environment
• Demonstrate team spirit, initiative and flexibility, and show enthusiasm for further training.
• Work in a multidisciplinary laboratory using Siemens ADVIA 2120i FBC analysers, ACL TOPS coagulation analysers, Siemens Atellica Solution and BioRad blood transfusion analysers.
• Post‑qualification professional development is encouraged and supported.
• Join the roster for out‑of‑hours sessions, which include weekend, evening, overnight and public holiday duties (upon attaining appropriate competences).
Qualifications and requirements
• HCPC registration.
• Completed or working towards (Trainee/Annex) the IBMS Specialist Diploma in Haematology, Blood Transfusion or Biochemistry, or BBTS Specialist certificate, or evidence of equivalent prior experience.
Working hours
36 hours per week.
