Offer description

Child Behavioural Specialist-

Location: Cardiff

Salary: £89.38/day

Contract: Full time

About the role-

As an integral member of a dynamic team in our School, you will work alongside specialist behaviour practitioners and teachers to support learners who present with social, emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH). Pupils may have experienced challenges in mainstream settings, and many require high levels of emotional support, consistency, and relational approaches to re-engage positively with education.

Your role will be crucial in helping to create a calm, safe, and structured environment where learners feel understood and supported. You will work with small groups of around 4–6 pupils and may also deliver 1:1 support for those with more complex behavioural or emotional needs.

Daily responsibilities may include:

* Supporting learners to regulate emotions using trauma‑informed and restorative approaches.
* Helping pupils re‑establish positive learning routines and develop resilience, communication, and problem-solving skills.
* Implementing behaviour support plans and de-escalation strategies.
* Encouraging engagement through personalised activities that build confidence, self-esteem, and motivation.

Every day in a PRU is different, and your support will play a vital part in helping pupils rebuild trust, develop positive relationships, and move toward successful reintegration or future pathways.

About the School

Our school provides a highly supportive and specialist environment for children and young people who require an alternative approach to mainstream education. The school works with pupils from primary through to 16, offering tailored learning programmes that focus on emotional wellbeing, personal development, and re-engagement with education.

The school prioritises strong relationships, consistency, and a therapeutic approach to learning. Staff work collaboratively to help learners become confident, responsible, and resilient individuals who can make positive choices and build a future that reflects their strengths and aspirations.

What We Need from You-

* No previous experience in a PRU is required, although any work involving young people with behavioural or emotional needs is highly beneficial.
* A positive, compassionate, and non-judgmental attitude, with a genuine passion for supporting learners who may face significant challenges.
* The ability to remain calm, patient, and adaptable in high-pressure or emotionally charged situations.
* Child and Adult Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (we can support you with this).
* Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC).
* Two references available upon request.
* Full UK driving licence and access to personal transport.
